At Windsor, we have been celebrating International Wombat Day (22 Oct) to honour and raise awareness about wombats. Marsupials that are known for their robust bodies, adorable faces, and unique characteristics, such as cube-shaped droppings.

The southern hairy-nosed wombat is now listed as Near Threatened, and the northern hairy-nosed wombat is Critically Endangered.

However, thanks to conservation organisations, they may still have a hopeful future. Protected areas, disease research, and public awareness are slowly helping these animals to recover.

Residents and staff celebrated Dashain festival along with our Nepali staff, in early October and really enjoyed embracing our cultural diversity at Glenview.

Organised by Samir Kharel, House Team Leader and attended by over 50 residents and staff including Sam Craig, Facility Manager and Damien Jacobs, CEO, well-wishers were treated to classical music, delicious food, singing and dancing.

The audience received tikka and felt the intimacy and blessings of Dashain. The event was even mentioned in Nepali media!

Our staff and volunteers are our greatest asset. We deeply appreciate the care you give every day, and the rich diversity you bring to our community through your backgrounds and nationalities.

To celebrate Aged Care Employee Day today, employees were warmly invited to enjoy a free hot drink from the coffee van. We welcomed a steady stream of night shift and morning staff early this morning at Windsor, and day and evening staff this afternoon at Korongee.

You are amazing, thank you for everything you do – and for the care you show every day. 💝

To celebrate that Korongee Dementia Village has been in operation for 5 years residents, families, and Glenview staff gathered for special screenings of the 'It Takes a Village' documentary made at Korongee in 2022 by ROAR film.

Emotions were high, with many viewers reaching for tissues as they were reminded of loved ones and staff who had moved on from Korongee.

There were laughs too, like when a son organised a late-night fast food run for his mum and her housemates. He said that although this was not encouraged, the staff accommodated it, and he relished the freedom of providing a special evening for the residents.

Before the screenings staff spoke about their time at the Village and how its unique model attracted them to seek a position there. CEO Damien Jacobs highlighted that significant lessons were learned during the five-year adventure.

"It is difficult to quantify the success of Korongee, as there is very limited contemporary research to evaluate and measure positive outcomes for those living with dementia in small-house models in Australia.

However, in a recent national survey, a question was asked: “How likely are you to recommend this home to someone?

The national average in aged care homes was 83% likely, while the response from Korongee residents was 94% likely. That's nearly 10% over the Australian average.

We are quietly pleased that our residents are happy and comfortable in their village, and how the small house model is meaningful and beneficial to them, and their loved ones."

Thank you to everyone who attended the celebrations.
