Research shows recovery is physical, emotional, hormonal and social. It’s not just about a body healing, it’s about a woman finding her rhythm and identify again.

Babies need YOU to help calm themselves 🤍 and you to learn how to calm.

The research tells us self-regulation starts to emerge around 18-24 months, but co regulation is still well needed into toddlerhood (and honestly we all need it sometimes 😅)

Through preschool, school age and even adolescence, children continue to grow their regulation skills but they are all built in the foundation you gave them in the early years.

The importance of Home Assessments 🏡

When an OT is coming to your home to conduct an assessment, it is not to see if you have washed the breakfast dishes already or to analyse what food groups you have in your fridge, it is an essential part of your home care.

As an OT, we need to see how you function in your own home as you are there for the majority of your time. We look at what home modifications or assistive technology will fit in your home and what will work best for you. We observe how you move around your house and make suggestions that will make it easier for you.

We conduct assessments with you around your mental health and cognitive abilities to help you function out in the community as well as your home.

It is all about making adjustments that will make your life better and safer all from the comfort of home ❤️

💪🏽 How to Build Healthy Habits 💪🏽

1% reflects small improvements that are made daily. It does only seem like a tiny win, but guess what- it will compound- it all adds up.

Good habits happen when we set ourselves up for success.

✨ Start small and make it easy. Don't try to completely overhaul your entire life in one day. Take some of the pressure off yourself by choosing smaller habits to implement. E.G 5 Minutes of journaling a day.

✨ Do it every day. Research says the time taken for a new habit to become automatic ranges from 18- 254 days!! The medium was 66 days.

✨ Habit Stack. Look for patterns in your day and think of how you can use existing habits to create new, positive ones.

✨ Reward yourself.

Assistive technology in bathrooms doesn't have to be expensive or invasive 💁🏻‍♀️

Below are some simple items that can help you get ready for the day;

A stool: to sit in front of the bathroom mirror.

Electric toothbrushes: to get those pearly whites.

Long handle louvers: to help clean those hard-to-reach places.

Reachers sticks: when things end up on the ground.

Adhesive hooks: to hang your toiletries on

👩‍🍳 OT KITCHEN 👩‍🍳

I'm beyond excited to share something I have been working on to offer participants!

I'm going to be launching a 6-week program called 'OT Kitchen'!

After working with numerous participants and discovering some common difficulties around food and cooking, I wanted to offer cooking classes in a fun dynamic that promotes a healthy lifestyle whilst also helping to improve your current level of function within the kitchen.

The program will consist of 90 Minute virtual small group cooking classes with Your OT (me) 🙋🏻‍♀️

We will cover a broad range of meals that will be healthy and easy to make. The virtual aspect is convenient and also allows you to be comfortable learning within your home environment. The program will further help to grow your confidence whilst creating new and positive habits.

The first intake of this program will begin on the 7th June from 11:30- 1:00 pm (AEST).

🐶 THE POWER OF PETS 🐶

Nothing compares to the joys of coming home to Hudson. The unconditional love beaming towards me, despite the troubles of the day they seem to drift away within seconds of seeing my furry little friend.

WHO IS WITH ME? 🙋🏻‍♀️

It sparked my interest in researching the benefits of animals in the promotion or improvement of health. . . .

Lets dive right in ⤵️

SO WHAT IS ANIMAL OR PET THERAPY? 🤔

It refers to the use of animals as a way to help people cope with and recover from some physical and mental health conditions. *

Research on human-animal interactions is still relatively new. Some studies have shown positive health effects, but the results have been mixed. 

WHAT DID I FIND? 🔍

I've broken some of the benefits down into 3 categories;

Psychological Benefits;

Reduces stress, pain and anxiety, provides motivation, stimulation, and focus, reduces fear or worry, alleviates symptoms of post traumatic stress and increases mood.

Physical Benefits;

Reduction in cortisol (stress- related hormone), lowers blood pressure, lowers heart rate, increases willingness to engage in exercise and improves motor skills and joint movement.

Social Benefits;

Reduction in feelings of loneliness, increases feelings of social support, bridges the gap in social situations, increases self esteem and increases verbal communication.

Remember with owning an animal comes great responsibility 🫶🏽
