🌿 Have you heard of the amygdala? 🌿
It’s a tiny almond-shaped part of the brain that has a big job—helping us respond to things like fear, stress, and danger. It’s often called the brain’s “alarm system.”
But when that alarm is going off too often—when we’re anxious, overwhelmed, or constantly on edge—it can really take a toll.
The beautiful thing is, with regular mindfulness, meditation, or simply slowing down and creating, the amygdala can actually shrink in size and become less reactive. That means we feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to cope with life’s ups and downs.
🎨 At Sanctuary Art Therapy, we see this shift happen through the simple act of creating. Whether you’re tiling a mosaic, painting, drawing, or just getting lost in the flow of making something by hand—you’re entering a meditative state. You’re calming your nervous system, quieting that inner alarm, and giving your brain space to reset and restore.
Art becomes more than just creating something—it becomes a way of calming the nervous system and gently rewiring the brain for peace.
✨ Isn’t that amazing?
