"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

🔬 Autistic individuals may have an “Intense World” rather than a “Social Deficit.”

Traditionally, ASD has been viewed as a disorder of social communication deficits. However, research suggests that sensory hypersensitivity and hyperconnectivity in the brain may lead to an “intense world” experience. This means that rather than lacking social interest, many autistic individuals may withdraw due to overwhelming sensory input and emotions.

💡 Clinical Insight:

Studies have shown hyperactivity in the amygdala (responsible for processing emotions) in some autistic individuals, leading to intense emotional responses.

Hyperconnectivity in local brain circuits may contribute to enhanced pattern recognition and detail-oriented thinking, often seen in autistic individuals.

This perspective shifts the focus from “fixing deficits” to creating environments that reduce sensory overload and support individual strengths.

🧠 On this World Autism Awareness Day, we’re excited to announce the launch of special sessions on neurodiversity!

Stay connected as we explore how to support and celebrate neurodivergent minds, both in clinical settings and beyond.

Would you like to discuss how to make clinical environments more autism-friendly? Let’s talk!
