After pregnancy loss, your body still goes through postpartum. And I don’t think it’s spoken about enough.

Nobody prepares you for the hormone shift. The bleeding that lingers. The cramping. The headaches. The nervous system feeling fragile and on edge. Or the way grief moves through the body, not just the heart.

When I shared my miscarriage, the response broke my heart open. So many of you carrying this quietly. Because this topic isn’t spoken about enough, not enough understanding, and not enough care goes into the recovery of a miscarriage. Women are expected to simply move on. But your body, your hormones, your heart they don’t just move on. They need support..

So I’m treating this like the postpartum it is. Swipe through to see everything I’ve been doing to support myself and know that it’s never too late to start.

We lost our baby 💔

Just over a week ago, I started experiencing some spotting. A few days later, I woke in the night with pains that felt like labour. With our kids asleep and not wanting to go to the hospital alone, we decided to wait until morning when our beautiful friends could have our kids.

On the way to the hospital, we were still hopeful. We thought it could be a hematoma. We held onto that.

After what felt like forever in ED, I had an ultrasound. There was no heartbeat.

Nothing prepares you for that moment. The shock. The silence. The heartbreak. Our little family is devastated.

I went home and let my body miscarry naturally. It took another long night and a quiet moment of saying, “I’m ready,” before my body went into labour again. It was the hardest labour I’ve been through not just physically, but emotionally, knowing it wasn’t going to end the way it should.

We truly underestimated what a 12-week miscarriage looks and feels like. We thought it would be like a heavy period. We didn’t realise it could be so similar to giving birth. Maybe we just didn’t know. Or maybe it’s because people don’t really talk about it.

That’s part of why we’re sharing this.

Opening Instagram has been really hard with all the congratulations still coming through. At times, we’ve wished we hadn’t shared our pregnancy announcement. But we also feel that sharing is a way to honour this little life and to be honest about our experience. So many go through pregnancy loss. And it’s not spoken about enough.

When we found out we were pregnant, it was a surprise. After losing my dad, losing our dog, and carrying a lot of stress, part of us wondered about the timing. But we had already fallen in love with this baby.

We honoured our baby by planting them with the placenta under an orange tree the kids chose. It felt grounding and gave us a sense of closure.

We’re going to take some time to process and slowly find our way back into normal life.

I refuse to live motherhood in survival mode.
So becoming a mum forced me to rethink how I thought about health.

Not because I stopped caring but because I started listening. 🤎

The biggest shift wasn’t more discipline.
It was more compassion and consistency.

If you’re in a season where health feels harder than it used to…
you’re not broken. You’re actually evolving. ✨

Our relationship with our significant other is meant to be our safe place. Somewhere we can be truly authentic without judgement. A place we can feel safe to fall apart.

When things are out of balance, the opposite can be true……

We aren’t saying we have it all figured out. We have been together for 7 years and we have a long time and a lot more challenges in front of us.

In saying that, we do believe we have a pretty amazing relationship and connection that has not all come naturally and without adversity. It’s come from us investing into understand each other and always finding ways to improve as individuals and as a couple.

It is also built on honesty. Honesty is not just about not lying with your words, it’s about not lying or manipulating with each others feelings and emotions.

Hopefully a post like this helps families like ours who are having challenges and we welcome anyone who is having trouble send us a DM and see if we can give you some quick guidance from our own experiences.
