Like many of his patients, Dr Nick Andrew loves the lifestyle that the Gold Coast provides him and his young family. ☀️🐬
A former Australian Team rower, he has always loved water sports. Nowadays that includes swimming in the ocean.🏊♂️
This isn't just about exercise for his body, but also for his eyes! 👁️
Spending time in the great outdoors, away from focusing on screens, and with a variety of focal points, can help to keep your eyes healthy too!
But one thing - on really sunny days protect your eyes with goggles or sunglasses!😎
This slows the progression of cataract, pterygiums, and possibly macular degeneration.
Here's an interesting question - do your retinas get sunburnt?
Staring at the sun will cause retinal injury, but that is a thermal burn, not a UV burn. No UV light reaches our retina, because the natural lens of the eye blocks it. And when a person has their lens replaced with cataract surgery, their new artificial lens implant has a UV filter!
