As the New Year is approaching fast, it is that time of year when people set goals for the year to come. Before you do that, it is a good idea to think about yourself as a person and what your strengths are, this will provide a better platform to set those goals, helping you head first with the belief that they are achievable.

If you woud liketo be provided with a copy of Curawell's assessment we use to identify participants strengths, please reach out and one can be emailed to you.

There are often many tedious forms that need to be filled out when you begin a new service with a provider. But this one is really important and helps to protect you by outlining what you would like us to do if there is an emergency.

If you don't have a support coordinator and you feel overwhelmed with forms, please reach out and I can help you go over them for peace of mind before you sign. But all good providers will explain their forms and why they are needed in a way that works for you.

Today is the International Day of Human Rights! Curawell was founded with social justice and inclusivity for all at the forefront. WE ALL deserve to have opportunities, "freedom, equality and justice" (United Nations of Human Rights, 2023).

The holiday season is just about here and it is not always a positive time for many. The best way to minimise the negative emotions that can be associated with this time of year is to have a plan or things that you can look forward to.

Curawell specialises in psychosocial disability - with a support coordination and psychosocial recovery coaching focus. We have capacity to take on more participants and like always, are always available to provide advice regarding your NDIS plan whether you are a participant of ours or not.

When working with people who have experienced trauma, it is especially important to know what not to do when coming from a trauma-informed practice. Whilst trauma is subjective to an individual, you have to be sensitive to their experience and ensure you don't unintentionally minimise what they have lived through. This protects the person from being triggered into reliving the trauma as if it has happened in the presence (re-traumatised).

Absolutely love this. Inclusivity is one of Curawell’s values and this couldn’t have defined it better 💙

It can be really hard to find hope on the days when everything seems near impossible. But if we try, we can find hope in the little mundane things which can be the catalyst for making the day all that much better. Hope for a better day, hope for a rainbow after the rain or hope that we will meet someone that will put a smile on our face.

The NDIS funds for many disabilities or chronic conditions that disable a person. But people with psychosocial disability are one of the fastest growing disabilities to be going onto the NDIS and understanding around this is often misunderstood.

Sometimes it's big and its heavy and we just want to put it down, but it is easier said than done mostly. But sometimes, with a little bit of work and the right people around us, we can thrive in spite of it..

Working in mental health, sometimes participants say they feel a bit funny about having paid supports. They feel like they’re paying for friendship and at times it makes them feel worse than better. But social connection is what we all need to thrive, we are not meant to live in isolation.

Connecting through conversation is a real key component in helping us feel better🙇🏼‍♀️
This is also why the NDIS funds for social support. The evidence is strong.

Those working in disability/mental health do so as we love to help people. So please don’t feel funny about paid supports, we love connecting with you and being privileged to hear your stories 🙌🏼

R U OK? conversations don't have to be formal.

Having a chat while doing an activity together is a great way to help someone feel comfortable, safe, supported and that they can open up to you.

As a support coordinator, often people come to me telling me about their poor experiences with providers. Often times it is not necessarily the provider as such, but just the fact that the participant and provider weren't the right fit for each other. So here are some helpful tips to help you choose the provider that is right for you.

This is the most crucial thing to understand and have skills in if we are working in the mental health space with people who have experienced trauma. We need to be trauma-informed and if we are not, we must be willing to get this brief education so we can best support those we work with..

In a conversation with a participant recently, this exact thing was discussed. Healing is often confused with never feeling the hurt again or moving on with life as if it never happened. The past and any consequences of that can never be undone. But absolutely you can get to a time where that pain or trauma has a backseat in your life instead of being a front seat driver ✨

This is very relevant to everyone. As you would have seen, Curawell has not had much of a social media presence. Curawell was launched and then life got busy personally and I wanted the focus to be on providing quality support, so that's where the focus has been. But I aim to go back to what Curawell was intended for and that is to provide NDIS and disability education. As well as amazing support coordination and psychosocial recovery coaching.
