Our social skills early intervention group focuses on building skills through structured activities and play with peers to help children better understand themselves and others. We use evidence-based social curriculum to help children build foundation social competencies and essential life skills. The group will help children develop self-awareness, problem-solve, share, make and keep friends, cooperate with others, practise active listening, use manners and utilize non-verbal cues.
Many children on the autism spectrum or with other development delays, may require help in learning how to act in different types of social situations. They often have the desire to interact with others however may not know how to engage friends or to keep friends and may be overwhelmed by the idea of new experiences. The start of school can be a challenge for some children. Building up social skills and practicing them can help enhance participation in the school and support outcomes like happiness and friendships.
The group is designed for learners who are verbal and exhibit difficulties with peer interactions, social cues, emotional regulation, perspective taking, group work and more.
The group will commence in Term 1 2022 and run weekly on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00pm at Hope Island Early Learning Sancturary- Unit 32/340 Hope Island road, Hope Island, QLD.
