Shoulder Mobility - Release Tension from Feeding & Holding Baby 🧘‍♂️ 🍼

1. *Start seated*: Sit cross-legged on a mat, feeling grounded.
2. *Grab something*: Hold a yoga strap, towel, or even a baby blanket with both hands, arms extended up (Image 1).
3. *Stretch and breathe*: Gently pull the strap back behind you as far as comfortable, stretching arms up and opening chest. Breathe deeply.
4. *Side stretch*: Lean to one side, keeping hips grounded (Image 2), stretch and hold. Switch sides.
5. *Pull back*: Keeping spine straight, hold the strap with one arm up and one arm down, and gently pull back (Image 3). Switch arms.
6. *Relax*: Drop shoulders away from ears, breathe out tension.

- Do gentle movements, listen to your body.
- Practice regularly to ease tension from feeding and holding baby.
- Consider consulting a yoga instructor for personalized guidance.

I’ve been slowly ticking away on this for the past 8 or so months. Done while babes sleep in union at nap time or while rocking Harry to sleep in the evening. I’m so very glad to be able to offer this service to my baby massage and yoga clients. I’m so excited to be the change that this industry needs. The term “self-soothing” was coined in the 1970s to describe babies who were already calm upon waking, not necessarily those who could calm themselves down from a state of stress. In reality, babies and toddler’s rely heavily on their caregivers, particularly their mothers, to help them co-soothe and co-regulate. Through responsive parenting, mothers play a crucial role in developing their baby’s neural networks associated with regulation. This co-regulation is essential for healthy development, and it’s not something babies can learn in isolation. Instead, it’s a process that occurs through the interaction and nurturing provided by their caregivers. ❤️

Letting a baby “cry it out” might seem like a way to make them more independent, but science shows this can be harmful—especially during the first six months of life. Babies cry because it’s their only way to communicate. Whether they’re hungry, uncomfortable, or need comfort, ignoring those cries sends a message that their needs don’t matter. Over time, babies may stop crying not because they’ve learned independence, but because they’ve learned no one will come. This emotional detachment can deeply affect their trust and emotional development.

During infancy, the brain is rapidly developing, and nurturing from caregivers plays a major role. Stress from being left to cry for long periods raises cortisol levels, which can interfere with growth hormones and even damage nerve tissues in the brain. This can lead to long-term problems such as anxiety, aggression, and difficulty with emotional expression and social skills later in life. Certain genes related to emotional regulation need nurturing to be activated during this early critical window; without it, those genes stay off, increasing risk of lifelong anxiety and behavioral problems.

Parents play a key role in shaping their baby’s emotional and mental foundation. Responding with love, comfort, and attention doesn’t “spoil” a child—it builds trust, resilience, and emotional stability. Every ignored cry might not just hurt in the moment, but shape a lifetime.

Hello hello 👋 it’s been a while since I posted on here but FB is telling me I’m getting a lot of views so I thought best to update. All is well, I’ve relocated East again after closing my beloved Sun Moon studio. I’m slowing working on a home studio space inbetween nurturing my human babies. Both furbabies Bear & Bodhi are well and as beautiful as ever. I’m doing online classes (pm me to book online or in person) and have taught a few sessions but am mainly focusing on my spin off baby business. I’m currently studying paediatric sleep and development (zero cry it out) and prenatal massage. Please do follow me here or say hi any time 😀
