🪻Tummy Time for Two 🪻

Postnatal bodies need love too, mamas!

Try Sphinx Pose for your own tummy time:
Lie on your belly, elbows under shoulders, forearms flat
Gently lift your chest, lengthen through your spine
Breathe into your belly + pelvic floor
Perfect for rebuilding core strength and easing that "new mum" upper back ache from feeding + cuddling

Meanwhile, bub gets their tummy time right beside you 👶 Mat-to-mat connection time! It's amazing for baby's neck strength, digestion, and motor skills.

You heal, they grow. Together on the mat 💛

✨Holding a baby does more than offer comfort—it sends steady signals to a developing nervous system, showing the body how to meet stress without overload. Warm contact regulates heartbeat and breathing, shaping emotional patterns long before words make sense. Gentle touch activates calming pathways, lowering stress hormones and giving the nervous system repeated practice at returning to balance.

✨Those small, daily moments—cuddles, sways, a hand resting on a back—build inner wiring for resilience. By age three, babies who’ve been held consistently tend to move through frustration and transitions with more ease, because their brains have rehearsed recovery again and again. It isn’t dependence; it’s quiet emotional training.

✨The worry that carrying a baby too often creates weakness turns out to be backwards. Early safety makes exploration bolder later, since connection has proven reliable. Touch remains one of the first languages, and each soft hold lays down a foundation for long-term emotional health.

✨Baby massage and baby yoga extend those same calming signals—rhythmic touch, supported movement, pause and breath—that let little nervous systems rehearse balance in real time. It deepens the wiring you’re already building.

✨Self Soothing vs Co Soothing✨

Did you know the concept of ‘self-soothing’ has been twisted? 🤯 Originally, it described babies who could calmly resettle themselves - but now it’s often used to push babies to sleep independently. 🙅‍♂️

Truth is, babies thrive with co-soothing - that’s us responding to their needs. It’s not about teaching them to sleep independently, it’s about building trust and security 🛋️

Co-soothing isn’t just nice, it’s necessary. Babies’ brains aren’t developed enough for self-soothing - they rely on us to regulate their emotions and physical needs. That’s what healthy attachments are all about 🤗

What’s your take on co-soothing vs self-soothing? 🤔 ”

As new mothers, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities of caring for a newborn. However, it’s essential to prioritise your bond with your baby. Holding baby is not a bad habit, but a vital part of building a strong, loving relationship.

But honestly, it’s more than that – research shows holding baby is essential for their development and your connection. At Blissful Babies, we’re all about embracing that. That’s why we’ve included our ‘Whispers to Baby’ exercise in all our courses (online and in-person).

This gentle exercise is designed to help you connect with your baby, calm your mind, and cherish these precious moments.

Here’s the exercise:

✨Whispers to Baby

Say these words gently, in moments of quiet connection – holding baby close to your heart. You can say them out loud or in your mind. Repeat them after me:

You are safe, you are loved, and you are cherished. Your tiny hands hold my heart, and your sweet face fills my soul with joy. I’m so grateful to be your mother, to watch you grow, and to explore this world together. You bring light and love into my life, and I’m honoured to be on this journey with you. Know now you are loved more than words can say.”

And then Baby’s heart whispered back: Stay mama stay, my heart beats for you… breathe this in, this time is yours and mine, and it will be gone before you know it. Be here now with me, in this tiny perfect moment. So, stay mama stay.
