✏️ What is Dysgraphia - and how can OTs help?
Handwriting isn’t just about neat letters. It requires coordination, planning, strength, and processing - and for some children (and adults), this is where dysgraphia comes in.
Dysgraphia is a neurological learning difficulty that makes writing hard, tiring, or frustrating. It’s not about effort or intelligence. Signs can include messy or inconsistent handwriting, slow writing speed, difficulty organising thoughts on paper, and discomfort when writing.
✨ How Occupational Therapy helps:
OTs assess the underlying skills behind writing - from posture and pencil grip to fine motor strength, visual-motor integration, and endurance. Therapy may include building hand strength, improving letter formation and spacing, adjusting the writing setup, teaching planning strategies, or exploring alternatives like typing or speech-to-text.
With the right support, people with dysgraphia can reduce frustration and express their ideas with confidence 💛
