🧘‍♂️Day 21 of your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Congratulations!

You have reached the final peak of our epic journey together!

Milestone 3: The Correct View of Reality

Today we consolidate the path and gaze back at our ascent to this final vista.

On the climb to the first milestone we cultivated radical self- love and self- care. We learnt to love ourselves so much that we created a strong motivation to do what was good for us and develop habits that geared us towards liberation from suffering. We learned the theory of karma and how to tend to the garden of our minds.

Ascending to the second summit we cultivated a strong desire to align with others. We are all in this together. Me became a we.

And the final climb moved us towards the steep ascent of realizing emptiness. We saw the dual nature of reality- on one hand ultimately empty of inherent existence, yet on the other- appearances arise and are experienced. Understanding the side of the coin that is empty gives us agency to become the architects of our lives.

Everything is possible!

🧘‍♂️ Day 20 of your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

The Perfection of the Wisdom of Realizing Emptiness.

Emptiness is defined as the lack of inherent existence of the self, other and interactions.

What?

When we contemplate that ultimately reality is empty of inherent existence and then meditate on this realization we have a chance to meditate on emptiness itself. To really know it beyond the analytical logical and reasoning of it, to a profound resonance and then into the bones and gut where 2+3 will never equal 4 again.

🧘‍♂️Day 19 of your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

The Perfection of Concentration or Flow

Today’s practice pivots towards the bench press mind- training of the Zen monks. The masters of sustaining single pointed attention on the reality of emptiness.

The path of the Lam Rim that we have been following on this meditation journey has geared us towards stabilizing the mind. This is through a series of contemplations that squares us up with the realities (both harsh and beautiful) of this precious human life. This squaring up helps us to let go of what muddies the mind and learn how to effectively manage the gardens of our minds.

We are then asked to deepen into the understanding that we are not in this alone. Our hearts are intentionally cultivated towards compassion and interdependence rather than our cultural conditioning of individualism. From here we are invited to glance at the roots of our suffering, the afflictive emotions of craving and aversion which lead the way to atma graha.. a basic misunderstanding of ourselves and discrete and permanent selves- something that we compulsively grasp for- and inevitably continue to spin the wheel of our own suffering.

The Perfection of Concentration is the mind training necessary for us to fix our attention on the nature of ultimate reality- the portal of realizing emptiness. It is an essential prerequisite to enlightenment.

So, let’s get training!

🧘‍♂️ Day 18 of your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

The Perfection of Perseverance or Joy

When you look back at your life do you sometimes wonder what it is about you that enabled you to somehow overcome the huge amount of adversity that you have encountered?

What gave you the perseverance and resilience to get you to here?

And when you look ahead- what will help arm you to face whatever challenges you are given with grace, kindness and joy intact?

This meditation explores both the obstacles and antidotes to our own perseverance and joy.

🧘‍♂️Day 17 of your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

The Perfection of Patience

Today we deepen our understanding of patience and imbue it with the qualities of giving and virtue. The perfection of patience draws on our understanding of the psychology of the mind aka karma theory.

Whatever emotion that arises within us is a ripening of a seed that has already been sown. This is not a message of suppression. We cannot do anything to stop this ripening.

Instead we have an opportunity- through our ninja mind training- to stop the cycle of violence and avoid perpetuating more suffering. We can pause, witness what arises, create space for it. We can endure this moment and reframe it - this seed is ripening. This one has exhausted itself. We are purified. We are humble. We can lean into love as we experience the disturbing emotion.

Enjoy- we can ALL use a little bit of this at the moment! :)

The Perfection of Virtue

☀️Have you ever met anyone unmuddied by the white noise of conflicting intentions?
☀️Anyone who emanates a light that is unsullied by self-grasping, craving or aversion?

These people are rays of light in our community.

We can cultivate that.

When we apply the Perfection of Virtue to the Perfection of Giving- wow- how we deepen and magnify.

Exchanging Self and Other

This meditation helps us re-wire the brain from ‘me’ to ‘we’.  Together we practice Tonglen, or the practice of ‘Taking and Sending’.

When we stub our toe our hand reflexively moves to hold the pain.  Through this practice we start to expand our sense of self to include the other. We develop an understanding of true presence and empathy and witness the healing that ensues.

This method can also be used on parts of ourselves that need healing, and for all of those that suffer just like us 🌸💖

🧘‍♂️Day 13 of your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

Contemplate the Benefits of Altruism.

Yesterday we heroically dove deep to identify a root habit that we have that leads to the myriads of suffering that is expressed in our world. The habit of self- grasping and the afflictive emotions that arise from never being able to achieve that.

Today we look at the myriad of successes, human triumphs and quiet joys of our lives to uncover the very nature of our reality... and what do we find?

🌸LOVE and OPENNESS.🌸

🧘‍♂️ Day 12 of your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

Contemplating the Detriments of Self-Grasping Atma-graha.

Today we take an unflinching look at the primary root of our suffering.

💞It is easy once we have developed a tender heart to become overwhelmed when we witness the myriad of sufferings in this world. We are often struck with questions like “why would they..” “how could they...” do x,y,z.

This meditation encourages us to avoid becoming overwhelmed in the myriads and w**d out the root of all suffering.  How wonderfully efficient.

🥸The plot twist is that in order to do this we need not look beyond our backyards. We share the same root ‘as them’.  We have all fallen prey to the same hallucination.

The one in which we believe that we are a permanent self.

🧘‍♂️Journey with me as we understand the ramifications of this basic human misunderstanding.

🧘‍♂️Day 11 on your 21 Day Meditation Challenge 🧘‍♂️

Equalizing Self and Other

Most of us- by virtue of being human- subtly or unsubtly take part in a constant vacillation between feelings of inferiority and superiority.  There is an evolutionary advantage to creating a polarisation between ‘them’ and ‘us’.

We see this play out in unconscious interrelational dynamics and more overtly between cultures, races, genders and normative discourses.

We may notice that we have a tendency - usually based on where we sit in the intersectional matrix of oppressions- as to which side of the binary we relate to most.

Normal vs Abnormal
Right vs Wrong
Superior vs Inferior
Etc..

Can we stop to consider the effect this subtle landing has on the other? Has on ourselves?

And how can we equalize our inherent value?

After all- we are all of equal value- equally deserving of kindness, respect, dignity and safety.
