💁🏽‍♀️✨The dieting industry has made it very challenging for us to know how to naturally eat and nourish ourselves.

We are told to base everything on our weight and if the scale says that the number is too high, then we automatically believe we’re overeaters. majority of people who believe they’re overeaters, are NOT.

Want to learn more?

I go into detail in my FREE 6 Ways to Stop Overeating Guide. But before you do. let me introduce myself...

💁🏼‍♀️✨ I’m Gaby Hill, a clinical psychologist and coach, and creator of Food and Body Freedom – a safe space to explore your relationship with food, eating and your body so that you can free yourself from the hell of dieting, restriction and disordered eating and create a life of vitality and energy in a body that you love.

Having been in this field for nearly 30 years, I’ve seen some interesting dieting trends come and go, but one thing that’s been constant is our belief that if we aren’t at our ‘ideal’ body weight, (hello BMI!) it must mean that we are overeating and restriction is the solution. Here’s the problem: Dieting and restriction often cause overeating.

When a client comes to see me for help with their eating issues, MOST of the time they want to lose weight in order to feel better about themselves. My heart breaks as I listen to an all too familiar story of how they’ve tried umpteen diets, lost weight and put it back on again, believing that they are weak overeaters who hate themselves for having so little discipline or willpower.

💙✨ Do you feel connected? It's a busy life and we can sometimes lose those deep connections with ourself and others.

Here are 3 suggestions you might like to try to deepen your connection with yourself and others:

👭Reach out and connect with someone who you haven’t spoken with for a while. You know that person who’s been on your mind and you keep telling yourself you need to get in touch with them. Do it today.

👭Organise an in-person catch up with a good friend or beloved family member. If you can, try to give yourself enough time to relax into the connection – creating spaciousness – no rush, just you and your friend relaxing over a coffee and finding out how you’re both doing.

👭Plan a mini-retreat – can you get away for a few hours? What will you do that feels deliciously nourishing? It could be as simple as heading out to your favourite coffee shop or park, with a notepad and pen. Imagine it as a date with yourself where you treat yourself as you would a good friend who haven’t seen in a while.

What questions would you ask them? Perhaps: How have you been? What’s been great for you in the past few months? What’s been challenging? What are your dreams, plans and goals for the next year? What do you need more of in your life? Less of?

Now ask these of yourself and write the answers that immediately come to mind.📝

What comes up for you? Were you surprised?

DM me and let me know how you go.💙

ON THE BLOG 🌻✨ Body acceptance might literally feel like the most challenging thing you could ever imagine doing.

AND yet, these are the vessels that contain the essence of who we are. All our love, hope, dreams, and desires are contained within this vital human suit. Without it we wouldn’t exist.

The society we live in currently, although slowly changing, has encouraged us to obsess about our bodies and our appearance. How they need to be improved, made smaller, be less wrinkly or saggy. And it causes us so much pain and stress.

It is from this place of self-criticism and non-acceptance that we spiral down into unworthiness and constant self-judgement. Because we go everywhere in our bodies, our minds are constantly full of chatter about our unsatisfactory appearance. This can feel like torture if you don’t know what to do with what your thoughts are telling you.

I remember wearing jumpers and jerseys out on sunny days because I felt so painfully self-conscious about my arms and stomach. I would pretend that I was cold when someone asked me why I was wearing such warm clothing, even though the sweat was dripping down my spine.

I remember a boyfriend asking me why I never wore shorts in the height of summer because I was so uncomfortable having my legs on display. When I look back now, I have nothing but love and compassion from my younger self. I wish I could go back and tell her that she was enough, that she was loving and warm and funny and kind and that it didn’t matter what her legs or arms looked like. She was so much more than that.
