Roll a Sentence has been one of the most highly requested activities during therapy of late.

I have been working closely with clients on building clear and concise sentences and developing their understanding and use of word classes.

Whilst not all sentences rolled are clear and concise, this creates a learning opportunity as to why and how we can fix them!

You can find this lovely little resource in Officeworks. Alternatively, you can find it in my resource bag, at all times, with a side of chocolate finger prints 😅

2023 has been an incredible year at Nurture Speech Therapy.
I am grateful for all of my families in placing their trust in me to guide their little ones towards their speech, language and literacy goals. We have seen some incredible growth and success this year and I am honoured to have played a role in this.

It’s time for me to take a well needed rest for the festive season. Nurture will be closed from Monday the 25th of December and recommencing again on Monday the 15th of January.

Wishing everyone a happy and safe Christmas and New Year 🎄💫

We have a fan favourite! Spot It!

My little friends LOVE playing this game. I love tricking them in to thinking that it is just a game but rather working on a number of other therapy goals, such as:
⋒ applying speech sound targets as single words, phrases and sentences.
⋒ language building activities (categorising, attributes, colour, size…)
⋒ story telling with one of the pictures on the card.

It was pyjama day today for my little friend Archie who is working on cluster reduction. Archie will drop off the ‘s’ sound in cluster words like snap (nap) and snail (nail). Archie is learning to work through this error with minimal pairs therapy. For example, when Archie says ‘snail,’ he means the little animal with a shell in the garden. However, when he says ‘nail’ he means something we use to build or hit with a hammer. It’s not as simple as asking Archie to just applying the ‘s’ sound, it’s all about the meaning which takes time! We love our bingo dotters and ‘100 trials for speech’ to get maximum opportunity to practice words.

Earlier this year I completed training in the Sounds-Write phonics programme.
The programme is a comprehensive and well structured approach supporting students to become competent readers, writers and spellers.

I have implemented this program with children from the ages of 4 and up and can honestly say that each and every one of my students are showing great progress. You really can see their confidence grow when they own new knowledge and it just makes sense to them!

I’m excited to share snapshots of success sessions with little ones working hard during Sounds-Write. I would also highly recommend to any teachers or therapists that have not completed this training to look in to completing the course.

Have you been told “just wait and see...” or “they will grow out of it...” Sometimes this approach just does not quite work out and can actually be quite detrimental to your child’s speech, language and literacy development.
If you notice that your child has not yet mastered a sound listed by their age, it can be helpful to seek out some professional help.
I am more than happy to provide you with tips and tricks to support you in developing your little ones sounds at home.
