Vale Dr Robyn Thompson.
Deep gratitude for this woman - her work as a home birth midwife and breastfeeding educator and advocate. It’s impossible to put into words how inspirational she was completing her PHD in her 70s, and how many lives she touched with her advocacy and dedication to women.
Personally, I don’t think I would have lasted more than 3 months feeding my eldest if it wasn’t for her.
Her education and insistence to lean into my maternal instincts made our breastfeeding journey possible and one that has continued for the last 4.5 yrs (and counting) including right throughout my second daughters pregnancy, a year of tandem feeding, and then back to a singledom.
It’s rare as hens teeth to see a picture of Dr Robyn actually holding a baby - she so strongly believed in never separating the mother baby dyad and it’s something I have taken into my own practice as a doula.
She’s pictured here with my second daughter. I’m glad she was a rule breaker and broke her own rules to have a snuggle!
Rest easy. And from one bereaved mother, to another, enjoy your long awaited reunion. 🩷
