Bariatric surgery, especially gastric bypass, can make you more prone to dumping syndrome. It happens when food moves too quickly from your stomach to your small intestine.

Early dumping syndrome can bring nausea and cramps. Sometimes, lying down can help ease the discomfort. Just remember, it will pass.

Late dumping syndrome happens due to a big insulin response, making you feel dizzy, or faint. A small amount of sugar can help balance your blood sugar levels.

Always talk to your dietitian to find out what’s best for you in each situation.

🙋‍♀️ What do you usually do when you have dumping syndrome? How does it make you feel? ⬇️

Even if you have protein with every meal, a smaller stomach can make it tough to hit your goals. Prioritising protein is crucial since it keeps you full longer, prevents muscle breakdown, and supports healthy cell functions.

Your protein needs come back to your meals. And, you need to have it FIRST!

You might not control which foods you tolerate, but you can control your meal planning.

If you know someone who's struggling, please share this post now. It may save them from protein deficiency and help them feel better!

Your dietitian should be your go-to guide for better eating habits after bariatric surgery. Understanding your protein and fiber goals, knowing what to eat and avoid, and sticking to that tricky vitamin regimen are all key to your success!

🙋‍♀️ When was the last time you talked to our dietitians Amanda or Maddy? Were your nutrition sessions helpful? Why or why not? ⬇️

Vitamin B12 deficiency can make you feel tired, weak, and affect your mood. It can also cause vision issues and mouth ulcers. To avoid this, focus on eating foods rich in B12 like lean meats, fish, eggs, milk, and fortified nutritional yeast. And don't forget to take your supplements regularly to keep your energy levels up and stay healthy!

Your body is adjusting to big changes, and adopting new habits can be challenging.

Want to make the most out of your first year? Absolutely.

But don’t let slow progress make you think there’s no progress at all.

Whenever you feel like the scale is controlling you, ask yourself:

“What can I do now that I couldn’t do last year?”
“What small win did I achieve this week?”
“What did I do for MYSELF today?”
Focus on what you’ve achieved and keep practising the basics consistently. You’ve got this! 🩷
