I am going to close this page as I am winding down towards retirement. Still mentoring some talented and dedicated speech pathologists through Billylids Therapy Nerang and Newmarket. What a privilege it's been to work with the people who've accompanied me along the way as colleagues and clients. 49 years! I have loved my job. Still love it!

I love when friends post these great sites.

Donโ€™t wait to find out which children fail to learn to read. Latest research confirms we can identify at-risk readers as early as 5 years of age, before they learn to read.

By examining four processing skills that are vital to reading development, you will know which children will need more help from the beginning.

A practical guide to identifying at-risk readers on entry to school using the CHIP Screener.

First workshops:
11 March @ 10:30 (AEDT)
16 March @ 6:30pm (AEDT)

In addition to administering CHIPS (Check How I Process Screener) to assess underlying processing skills, you will also learn about FISH (Fluency Identification Stories for Higher-years) which will help you check accuracy and fluency skills in older children. Yes! We'll be discussing FISH and CHIPS!

If youโ€™re looking to make a change and be part of the solution to the โ€œwait-to-failโ€ problem, then this early screening workshop is for you!

In this 2-hour session, you will learn how to use Read3's free CHIP Screener to help you make informed intervention decisions for your students.
You will unpack:
๐Ÿ”ต research behind early screening
๐Ÿ”ต four processing skills and the role they play in screening for reading difficulties
๐Ÿ”ต how to administer CHIPS for younger children
๐Ÿ”ต how to interpret the results
๐Ÿ”ต how to present findings to educators and parents
๐Ÿ”ต how to administer FISH and CHIPS for older children
๐Ÿ”ต plus, an overview of how to target intervention based on the โ€˜reading profileโ€™ of the child

You will walk away with a clear understanding of the role of screening, how to screen at all year levels, PLUS a free spreadsheet for recording and analysing student data.

I am back seeing clients after a short break over Christmas. I will be wearing a mask, and am generally isolating apart from essential outings and client visits. . I respect any of my client's decisions to interrupt planned appointments for the next few weeks. Hope we can all resume therapy as usual soon.

Sharing the facts can help put an end to common dyslexia myths. Hereโ€™s what you should know. https://u.org/2YFI1am

We're now part way through Term 3 and do you know what worries us the most? It's that by now, many of the children who are at-risk of dyslexia, or have other processing challenges, are starting to fall behind their peers. They may be struggling to connect letters to sounds while the other kids are starting to read and their confidence is plummeting...

Their hard-working teachers or parents may be noticing some lag in their progression and hoping that they will catch up soon.

But guess what... 'wait and see' is never a good approach.

While the gap may be only small now, experience tells us that it only gets bigger without early intervention. Unfortunately, these kids just don't seem to respond to 'more of the same'. They require a learning process that supports the way their brains are wired.

If you're worried about your child, or a child in your class, screen your child. Our screening tool is available free of charge and can help to identify children who may have processing challenges and may benefit from further support.

Now is the time of the year to identify these children and put systems in place to support their learning journey.

For more information, feel free to send us a DM or check out our free CHIP Screener, or join us for professional learning on September 10.
