Information Sharing
Here’s a helpful tip if you ever want to track a flight’s progress in real time.

📱 All you need to do is text the flight number to someone using an iPhone (or even just enter it in your iMessages). In the example shown, the flight number EK21—which travels from Dubai to Manchester—was simply typed into a message.

✈️ Once sent, the flight number becomes a link. Tapping it brings up a live flight tracker, as seen in the second screenshot:

Departure: Dubai (DXB), Terminal 3

Arrival: Manchester (MAN), Terminal 1

Departure Time: 3:00 AM Gulf Time

Arrival Time: 7:42 AM UK time

Duration: 7 hours 45 minutes

Status: On time

Plus a map showing the current location of the aircraft in flight

This is a great way to check on flight progress if you’re waiting for someone, planning travel, or just curious. Give it a try—it’s surprisingly simple and useful!

🗺️ Recently we’ve seen the Translink network maps in both black and white! 🖤⚪ Some people are finding the black background easier to read, while others prefer the white — but why the change? 🤔

📍The white map is the current version, while the black map is the new one showing upcoming updates to the network.

🆕 The black map includes:

🚋 The Light Rail (tram) extension that’s under construction to Burleigh
🚆 New train stations in progress at:

Pimpama (due to open in 2025)

Hope Island

Merrimac

The past few days have been incredibly tough with Cyclone Alfred, power outages, and flooding. Our thoughts are with everyone affected—we hope you and your loved ones are safe and haven’t been too badly impacted. 💙

We know many are going through a difficult time, and we’re thinking of you. Due to telecommunications outages, we haven’t been able to respond to everyone, but we’re slowly working through messages and will get back to you as soon as we can.

Please take care, stay strong, and support each other. 💙🙏

On a recent trip back to Manchester, England, I took a photo of the statue outside Manchesters Piccadilly Train Station. It feels fitting to share it today, on Armistice Day – the 11th day of the 11th month. The statue, entitled Victory Over Blindness, depicts seven blinded First World War soldiers, each with a hand on the shoulder of the man in front, leading one another away from the battlefield. These life size figures are a powerful reminder of the sacrifices our ancestors made for us. Honoring their memory and acknowledging their courage on this solemn day.

"The Victory Over Blindness statue includes signage in both Braille and raised print.

Victory Over Blindness
Remembering the returning blind veterans of the First World War. More than 3,000 veterans lost their sight as a result of their service in the First World War. Making their way home from the front, they began their journey to rebuild their lives after sight loss. In 1915, a charity was founded to support them. Blind Veterans UK, formerly known as St Dunstan's, has continued to support thousands more blind veterans to live independently as they begin the same journey today.

Brisbane Familiarisation Day - September 2024

Last month, Lisa from ieye had the exciting opportunity to attend a special familiarisation day at Eight Mile Plains station to explore the new Brisbane Metro. It was a fantastic experience working alongside various clients, partners and other O&M's that included Stephen Thornton (Explore O&M), Christa Jakob, (Let's Go - Orientation and Mobility Services) and Bashir Ebrahim of (Vision Australia), plus Rarg from (Brisbane Council) as we got an up-close look at the impressive features of the metro.

♿ Accessibility Highlights:
• Three spacious mobility aid bays in the first passenger compartment
• 🚶‍♂️ Ten priority seats for those who need them
• ♿ Automated, on-request ramp access at the first passenger door
• 🚌 Low-floor design for easy, accessible boarding
• Journey progression audio announcements and hearing loops
• Six emergency and assistance help points on board
• 📝 Braille and tactile signage for vision-impaired passengers

The day was full of energy and excitement, with many attendees coming together. We’re thrilled by the positive response and look forward to seeing the Metro become a key part of Brisbane’s future transport system.

Expressions of Interest for Familiarisation Session of New Brisbane Metro Buses
Date: Monday, 2nd September 2024
Time:12.30pm to 2.00pm
Location: Eight Mile Plains Busway

Brisbane Metro vehicles will be introduced on the 169 bus service between Eight Mile Plains and UQ St Lucia Station starting October 21, 2024, to meet increased demand. 🚍 These familiarisation sessions provide a valuable opportunity for participants to explore the new vehicles, ask questions, and get acquainted with the features ahead of service.

We have limited spaces for people to be part of the familiarisation day, so please contact ieye to secure your place.

The sessions will feature a stationary Metro vehicle at a live busway station, offering a stress-free environment to review the new design and accessibility features. 💡 Participants are encouraged to attend a session tailored to their needs, as each will be customised.

While feedback on the vehicles themselves won’t be accepted during these sessions, we welcome input on customer readiness communication to ensure we adequately prepare our customers for their Metro journeys.

Thank you in advance for your support as we approach this exciting launch!
