5 THINGS I LOVE ABOUT THIS IMAGE:

1. Baby turned in toward mum – tummy to mummy

2. Posture – your body weight is supporting baby, not your arms doing all the work.

3. Pillows – supporting you so you can support baby (pillows are your best friend).

4. Babies hips, shoulders and neck all beautifully aligned – no twisting or reaching.

5. Head gently supported – allowing baby to extend slightly and readjust if needed (no pushing or forcing).

All of this supports optimal positioning and a more comfortable, effective latch:
- Less ni**le pain and damage
- Less fussiness
- Less air intake
- Better milk transfer and breast drainage
A couple of little extras I love here 👇🏼

- Baby is nice and close – no gaps/between mum and Bub.
- Chin leading into the breast with space around the nose
- Mum looks relaxed and comfortable (this matters more than we think).

And of course this beautiful mama .elle.kidd

I have had a bit of a week of oversupply and associated challenges so I thought it was worth a post.

Oversupply isn’t rare but it’s also not the norm.
Many women will experience engorgement and fullness in the first few weeks but when it prolonged and causing ongoing issues it should be looked into further.

What we do know is that it is often misunderstood and can have a real impact on both mum and Bub so please get support if needed.

Hands up if you experienced this?

I received this message today from this gorgous mama……

“Wanted to say thank you for your time after our boys were born 🩵🩵 the quick chat we had gave me so much confidence to trust my instincts in feeding our boys. Being able to exclusively breastfeed our twins from birth was a big goal, and aside from a few breastmilk top ups in the first few days to manage blood sugars, we’ve done exactly that. They are a month old now and thriving, we’re enjoying them so much 🥰”

So many beautiful sets of Twinnies lately and I thought this was important to share because although it’s not everyone’s wish/plan to breastfeed twins at all or exclusively it is possible with the right support.

As always…doing it your way with right support is the best way.

❤️

I’m now offering 15-minute Telehealth consults.

• weight gain questions
• feeding patterns
• postpartum recovery questions
• pregnancy questions

If you’re not sure whether you need a full consult, you live remotely/not locally or you just have a few lingering questions or concerns, this can be a really helpful starting point.

Monday 9th March

11:30am–1:30pm (QLD time)

$50 for 15 minutes

Some consults may be eligible for a Medicare rebate depending on the circumstances.

Bookings via the link in my bio.

I thought it was time for a reintroduction.

I’m Clare; Endorsed Midwife, IBCLC & most importantly, Mum of 3.

On a personal note, I genuinely love the work I do and the people I get to meet along the way. I’ve been a midwife for 16 years and I’ve learnt just as much from my own 3 babies & births as I have from the job.

Outside of work; I’m happiest with friends and family, coffee, moving my body, chilli margs and long girls’ lunches. My husband is an absolute legend… I’m a very lucky woman.

I work in a hospital and I also run my own private practice providing continuity of care to women in their homes during pregnancy, postpartum and on your feeding journey.

In my private work I offer:

• 1:1 antenatal preparation (birth, postpartum planning, feeding education and the little details that with hindsight you say… “I wish somebody told me that”
• In-home postnatal checks for Mum and baby
• Breastfeeding + feeding support
• Debriefs, reassurance & practical guidance
• Medicare-rebatable consults (under 6 weeks and 6 days postpartum)

Most of what I do centres around the early weeks after birth…

The part no one really sees.
The feeding.
The physical recovery.
The relationship shifts.
The “why does no one talk about this?” moments.

I believe preparation changes postpartum.
Support changes feeding journeys.
And women do better when they feel safe, unrushed and wholeheartedly cared for.

This page is where I share what I see every day; the patterns, the gaps, the things I wish more families knew before they walked into them. It’s a safe space and a place of gentle education and incredible connection & community.

I’m so grateful to those families I’ve met along this journey and who still follow my story & path today. DM or email me for questions/services and please save or share with anyone who may benefit.

Afterbirth pains can be unexpected and strong - especially after subsequent babies and during breastfeeding.

They are a normal sign of your uterus contracting and reducing bleeding.

Often just the reassurance of knowing this makes it easier to manage.

Did you experience afterbirth pains?

🧠 Neural connections explode:

In the first year of life, a baby’s brain forms over 1 million new neural connections per second. Responsive interaction, talking, eye contact, smiling strengthens these connections while the ones that aren’t used face away. (“Use it or lose it” in action.)

🧠 Emotional regulation wiring:

When you respond to your baby’s cues, you’re helping wire the parts of the brain involved in stress regulation (including the prefrontal cortex). Consistent, warm interaction supports healthier cortisol patterns and long-term emotional resilience.

🧠 Social brain development:

Face to face play activates mirror neurons helping babies learn empathy, social cues, and connection. They are literally mapping how relationships work.

🧠Long-term outcomes:

Research shows that responsive caregiver interaction in the early years is linked to improved cognitive outcomes, stronger attachment and feeling of safety, and better language skills in childhood.

In simple terms when you talk, sing, smile, and respond to your baby you’re building structures in their brain that lasts a lifetime.

SO GO AHEAD AND LOVE YOUR BABY “TOO MUCH” 🤣

Postpartum puppy diaries… 🐶🤍

We got our new puppy this week!

Firstly, let me preface this by saying I have had 3 children and I absolutely understand that a baby and a puppy are very different, it’s quite simply just not the same.

Having said that… having a puppy has reminded me of a few things:

• Newborns wake and feed a lot
• There is no routine
• Day and night are a 24-hour cycle
• A mother’s work is never done
• Preparation is key
• Your support system is everything
• Sleep and eat when you can
• There are no moments to switch off
• Your mind wanders to worst-case scenarios
• You can’t sleep@waiting for the next wake
• Your constantly questioning your care
• Everybody wants to visit and cuddle the cute new addition, but no one brings food or does the washing 🤣
• You want to trust your instincts, but there is so much noise
• The cries pull at your heartstrings
• You try to be calm while simultaneously feeling incredibly anxious

This season is intense, messy, exhausting and consuming but it is also temporary…..

Trying to remind myself of this. ✌️🫠🤣
