What's so good about NLP, I hear you ask ...🤔
What is NLP? It's been around for many years but is often misunderstood.
It's not so much about the WHY, but rather the HOW ... How to use the language of the mind to achieve great outcomes. It's an acronym for Neuro Linguistic Programming.
As your NLP Practitioner I can identify how you communicate with yourself and others and help you to change that, if that's what you would like to do, in order to change your learned strategies that may not be working so well for you any more.
For example, at some point you might have experienced something that you have stored away as a lesson learned for future use, let's say as a child you learned that if you put your hand in a pot of boiling water it hurt, it was scary, and you won't be doing that again. Probably a good thing right?
However, expanding on that, what if you learned to hold your tongue and not say what you were thinking because when you had done that or seen someone else do that they got into serious trouble, they may have even been physically punished or bullied etc - lesson learned, won't do that again. Maybe you've been holding on to this for many years.
I'm sure you could think of many examples relative to your own life.
You made a decision that, at the time, seemed perfectly reasonable but no longer works so well. In the example of not speaking up for fear of reprisal, you believe it's best to be quiet, to not speak up and "hold your tongue". But now, now that you are in a situation where it would be absolutely appropriate to say what's on your mind, you are not able to do it. So this lesson, this decision you made to modify your behaviour is actually a problem for you now. You may even think it's just who you are, the way it is.
I'd say ... Let's get rid of that decision and that belief and having done that, let's see if the next time when it's appropriate to speak your mind you actually do it easily, without even hesitating, and you do it well, you are heard and have expressed yourself easily and respectfully, because you now see that you can choose to do exactly that.
Wouldn't that be amazing?
Removing limiting decisions and beliefs, just one of many NLP techniques available to help you appreciate the power of choice, you don't need to be locked into behaviours that you'd rather not have. Imagine that.
