Let’s talk sh*t 💩 (literally)...
We spoke with one of our fabulous dietitians, Tegan Tudor, who shared why fibre is the unsung hero of nutrition & why most of us are missing out.
Did you know over 70% of Aussie adults aren’t getting enough fibre? That’s 2/3 of us missing out on one of the most underrated health superheroes hiding in our meals. 💪
Fibre isn’t just about keeping you “regular.” It:
❤️ Lowers cholesterol & protects your heart
⚡ Keeps blood sugar steady
🦠 Fuels a healthy gut microbiome
🥗 Supports weight management & fullness
🚽 Promotes smooth digestion
But not all fibre is the same! There are different types working together to supercharge your health:
👉 Soluble fibre (oats, barley, lentils) – slows digestion, balances blood sugar.
👉 Insoluble fibre (whole grains, veggie skins, nuts) – adds bulk, keeps you regular.
👉 Fermentable fibre (onions, garlic, bananas) – feeds your good gut bacteria.
👉 Resistant starch (cooled rice/potatoes, beans, green bananas) – a natural prebiotic for gut health.
✨ Getting a mix of these fibres = total body benefits, from your heart & gut to your energy & immunity.
So, next time you build your plate, ask yourself... Where’s my fibre? 🌾🥦🍎
💬 Which fibre-rich food is your go-to... oats, beans, nuts, or something else?
