AAC Setup Aus aims to support the busy lifestyle of caregivers and individual participants, whilst taking into consideration the participants plan and overall family and NDIS therapy goals. After engaging numerous Speech Pathologists to provide speech and communication therapy and support, assistance with the setup of AAC devices proved to be a costly experience and used a lot of funds that were desperately needed for other services; and it was hard to find a Speech Pathologist that had the availability and experience to fully setup and regularly update an AAC device specific to the user’s requirements and therapy goals across the board, and the knowledge required to bridge the gap between a clinical and home setting environment - without the full capped cost damage to the individual’s NDIS plan. Our AAC Setup Aus Assistant found that each Speech Pathologist that had been engaged in the past had their own ‘way’ of setting up an AAC Device, which were all based around floor play in a clinical setting, instead of incorporating the much needed communication tools to assist the individual to communicate their basic wants and needs at home, which would inevitably lead to an increase in destructive behaviours, frustration, impulse control and regression in multiple areas. This would leave the caregiver feeling hopeless and frustrated, as they were forced to find other avenues to support the communication needs of their individual, which were all failing due to a lack of feeling understood.
