Most people think only affects the uterus but has been found in many parts of the body including the bowel, bladder, diaphragm, surgical scars and, in rare cases, the lungs.

A recognised condition called thoracic endometriosis occurs when endometriosis affects structures within the chest.

Because endometriosis is an inflammatory disease, symptoms can extend beyond the pelvis and include:

• bowel pain
• bladder symptoms
• shoulder or chest pain
• fatigue
• widespread inflammation

This is why managing endometriosis requires a multidisciplinary approach, not just gynaecological care.

Understanding the whole-body impact of endometriosis is an important step toward better diagnosis and treatment.

Raising awareness is not only about science and treatment, it’s also about listening and sharing the lived emotions and experience. Art can make the invisible visible.

endoMEtriosis Art Competition, an annual, national initiative run by gives people living with endometriosis a voice through creative expression.

This year’s theme was ‘Making the Invisible Visible’

More than 130 artworks from across Australia were submitted this year, with curated pieces currently on exhibit in CBD Gallery Sydney ending tomorrow, March 5.

From chronic pelvic pain and fatigue to the emotional impact of delayed diagnosis, these works reveal what many patients struggle to put into words.

Myth Busting; Many people believe that regular periods mean their fertility is normal. While regular cycles suggest ovulation, they don’t reveal egg quality, tubal health, or whether fertilisation and implantation can occur.

Fertility is far more complex than cycle timing alone. Menstrual regularity reflects timing, not necessarily reproductive potential.

Regular cycles are only one piece of a much larger story and definitely not an indication everything is fine.

If you’ve experienced recurrent miscarriage, and no clear cause has been identified, it is worth discussing whether endometriosis is part of the picture.

Not every miscarriage is caused by endometriosis. But in TOO MANY women, it is an overlooked factor.

Not all endometriosis is painful. For many women, the first sign isn’t pelvic pain. It isn’t heavy periods. It isn’t crippling cramps.

It’s repeated early pregnancy loss.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition. Even when silent, it can affect:

• Egg quality
• Implantation
• Endometrial receptivity
• Early placental development

The result? Difficulty sustaining pregnancy.

Recurrent pregnancy loss deserves investigation. And you deserve answers!

“Exactly one year ago we were walking into this same hospital while Jeremy was having chemotherapy and I was going to IVF appointments on my own. This week, we walked out carrying our son.

It’s hard to explain how much can change in a year. I want to properly acknowledge the people who carried us through it.

To Dr Kee Ong, you never, ever gave up on us. Even when I felt defeated, you kept believing we could find a way. You kept refining protocols, adjusting plans, thinking critically, and being willing to try new approaches. Your clinical skill paired with your determination made all the difference. You fought for this outcome alongside us and our miracle wouldn’t exist without you!

To my OB you answered every single question with care. You were open to my preferences, never dismissive, never rushed. You genuinely wanted to know how I was doing, not just physically but emotionally. After everything we’d been through, that mattered more than you know. You were my constant. You believed in me, even in moments I didn’t believe in myself.

If you’re in the middle of treatment, grief, or waiting right now- know this, this could be you in a year. I know that feels impossible when you’re in it. But it is possible. We are loving proof. Carry hope. We are so grateful he’s here.” Chloe

Fertility is science and medicine. At CORMS, it’s also profoundly human.

Dr Byron and I are doctors, and fathers. Parenthood has changed us personally, but also professionally.

A deepened understanding of what my patients are fighting for. A deepened resolve to leave no stone unturned.

Every day, I sit with couples navigating uncertainty, loss, hope, and resilience.

I never take for granted what it means to hold your child for the first time. And I never take lightly the responsibility and honour of helping others get there.

They are embryologists, scientists, researchers, clinicians and leaders — and fertility medicine is stronger because of them!

Supporting women in science isn’t about celebration one day a year. It’s about respect, opportunity, and listening — every day.

To the women shaping reproductive medicine now, and the girls who will shape it next: your curiosity, intelligence and ambition belong here.
Always.

Thank you to the incredibly skilled ‘women in science’ I get to work with daily. 🙏🏼

We are incredibly lucky to have them working on your dream.
