Please join us in welcoming Dr Timothy Thorne to Hope Island Medical Centre.

Dr Tim has commenced his career in emergency medicine across multiple hospitals in Brisbane, including the Queensland Children’s Hospital. This has provided him with experience with managing a diverse range of medical conditions in patients of all ages, including paediatrics.
For the past year, he has been working in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service, he strives to provide culturally safe healthcare to all his patients. He is well-versed in the various Close the Gap programs, services, and initiatives available to enhance access and improve health outcomes for First Nations Australians.

In his leisure time, Tim is an avid participant in endurance sports such as marathon running and triathlon. He integrates his passion for exercise and nutrition into a holistic approach to health management. His primary objective is to assist patients in achieving their health goals and living well throughout all stages of their lives.
Dr Tim is available Monday - Friday and some Saturdays.

Hope Island Medical Centre is pleased to welcome Dr Cho Thet Paing to our team.
Dr Cho is a dedicated female General Practitioner with a strong interest in women’s health and chronic disease management. She is known for her empathetic, patient-centred approach and is committed to providing personalised, high-quality care to patients across all stages of life.
Dr Cho has a particular focus on women’s reproductive and preventative health, including family planning, cervical screening, menopause care, and Implanon insertion and removal. She also provides family care including developmental checks, childhood immunisations and supports patients with the ongoing management of chronic conditions through holistic, evidence-based care.
Dr Cho is fluent in Burmese (first language) and English, allowing her to communicate effectively with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. She charges fees for all patients and is available Monday and Thursday and some Saturday mornings.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀
This provides an opportunity for us all to focus on breast cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community.

Finding breast cancer early provides the best chance of surviving the disease. Remember you don’t need to be an expert or use a special technique to check your breasts.

Changes to look for include:
• a new lump or lumpiness, especially if it's only in one breast
• a change in the size or shape of your breast
• a change to the ni**le, such as crusting, ulcer, redness or inversion
• a ni**le discharge that occurs without squeezing
• a change in the skin of your breast such as redness or dimpling
• an unusual pain that doesn't go away.

When did you last have your Heart Health checked?

The Heart Foundation is thrilled by announcement of a three-year extension to Medicare Heart Health Checks by the Australian Government, securing funding through to 30 June 2028.

This vital program - first introduced in 2019 following strong advocacy by the Heart Foundation and the broader heart health sector - has already led to over 870,000 Australians receiving a Heart Health Check.

The Heart Health Check is a 20-minute appointment with a GP to assess a person’s risk of heart attack or stroke and to support early, proactive steps to reduce risk factors like high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
