Our story

Emma Middlebrook is an aquatic occupational therapist passionate about helping people with disabilities reach their full potential. She has always wanted to make a difference in the lives of others which led her to pursue a career in occupational therapy. As a learn to swim instructor for many years prior to completing her BA Occupational Therapy at Southern Cross University, she saw the amazing benefits of water in children’s lives and wanted to use it as a therapeutic tool to help children with special needs. Due to the lack of aquatic therapy services on the Gold Coast, she decided to start her own aquatic therapy business which has led to the exciting new service, AquaHeart.

Emma believes in client-centredness and works together with children, their families and other key stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcomes. She is experienced in delivering therapy in a range of interventions and uses play to improve sensory processing, coordination, motor skills, behaviour, and social and emotional development. She also understands the importance of water safety and specialises in teaching swimming skills. As Emma believes in life-long learning, she is currently pursuing a masters degree in rehabilitation at James Cook University to increase her knowledge and continue to develop her skills in aquatic occupational therapy.

Emma is registered to provide services through NDIS, HCWA and Medicare as well as relevant Private Health Insurance extras.
