This term in our yoga programs, we’re doing more than just yoga ✨

Children are learning about their bodies in ways that feel safe, playful and empowering.

Through movement, breath, mindfulness, games and connection, children are learning:

• about their body systems
• ways to calm busy minds
• building confidence
• posture and back strength to support growing bodies
• how breath, movement and the body work together

In a world where many children are feeling overwhelmed these classes give them tools they can actually use in everyday life 💛

The way we present a yoga space to children really matters, because it shapes how safe, calm, and open they feel as they walk in.

A thoughtfully prepared space with gentle lighting, soft music, inviting activites and a sense of warmth helps their nervous system settle and signals that this is a place where they belong.

When the environment feels inviting and predictable, children are more likely to relax, participate, and connect with themselves and others.

Exploring friendship and belonging in yoga this week 🤍
After our back-to-back breathing practice, the children wrote these beautiful “magic messages” to their friends, words of kindness, encouragement, and care.

Moments like this gently build emotional intelligence, helping children feel seen, safe, and connected. When children feel a sense of belonging, they naturally open their hearts to others.

Through simple practices of connection and safety, we’re supporting children to grow into kind, confident humans ✨

This week we have been exploring a fun partner activity called Mirror Hands with a tennis

Where one child leads slow hand movements while holding the ball, and the other mirrors as closely as possible.

This playful activity supports coordination, focus, and body awareness, while also building connection and teamwork. The slow, mindful movements gently calm the nervous system, helping children practice presence, patience, and emotional regulation through play.

Can you give it a go at home?

This term in our school yoga classes we have been exploring emotions and how they feel in the body.

Through yoga, breathing, visualisation meditations and mindfulness, children are learning to recognise their feelings and practise simple tools to help when emotions feel big.

We explore questions like:
How does worry feel in the body?
What helps our body feel calm again?

In our sessions children practise:
• calming breath techniques
• yoga poses to release tension
• visualisation meditations to feel safe and relaxed
• mindful pauses to notice their feelings

These simple skills help children build emotional awareness, calm their nervous system and grow confidence tools they can use at school, at home and in everyday life.

How amazing is that!!

The goal of a therapeutic yoga class is to restore balance to the body, systems, and structural imbalances.
In a fun and creative way, children will learn to listen to what their bodies need (developing self awareness) but most importantly, they understand that they are not their behaviours or their thoughts or even their actions.

Through a 1:1 therapeutic yoga class, I can support your child to

- improved digestive health
- develop a strong spine
- increase flexibility
- still the mind
- calm the nervous system
- become centred, confident, and strong
- support the organs through specific poses to improve energy and digestion
- improve emotional health through a balanced physical state.
- Learn calm tools to release anxiety, worries, and stress
- Use EFT (tapping) to release stored emotions and fears from a memory or experience.

This term we’ve been building our emotional vocabulary ,helping children understand what they’re feeling and how to express it in supportive, healthy ways.

We’ve explored how every feeling in the body is welcome, how emotions shift and change throughout the day, and how to notice them without judgment.

When we teach self-regulation through holistic practices from a young age, we help grow calm bodies, confident hearts and healthy minds.

Why Yoga Is So Beneficial for Kids

Children are growing up in a fast, overstimulating world. Yoga gives them something powerful the ability to slow down, breathe and reconnect with themselves.

Through simple movement and breathwork, kids learn how to manage big emotions instead of being overwhelmed by them. They build confidence without competition, strengthen their growing bodies, and improve focus and concentration for school and life.

Yoga also nurtures resilience, kindness and self-awareness giving children lifelong tools to feel calm, capable and connected.

If you feel called to support children in this way, join our 20-hour Kids Yoga Training and learn how to confidently share these valuable tools with the next generation.

We start March 7th online and in studio 14th and 15th March Varsity Lakes QLD
