It’s so important to look at the whole body as an interconnected system when you are feeling off; be that mentally, emotionally, physically or energetically.
If the body is inflamed, it is so much more difficult to heal. Thank you Abbie Lee Louw Naturopath for this wisdom 🙏🏼
We often separate physical and mental health, but your brain and body are deeply connected, especially through the gut. Not that long ago we use to think mind and body were separate!
What you eat literally fuels your brain chemistry.
🧠 Around 90% of serotonin (your “feel good” hormone) is made in the gut.
🧬 Your microbiome influences your mood, memory, sleep, and stress response.
🔥 Inflammation from poor diet? That can increase your risk of anxiety and depression. Interestingly there is a link between low grade, doesn't even show up in blood tests, inflammation and anxiety and depression!
✨ The good news? Food can support you too.
Here are a few of my favourite yet simple gut-loving, mood-boosting tips:
Include prebiotic foods like cooked and cooled potato, garlic, leeks, green banana, and flaxseed
Eat protein with every meal to support neurotransmitter production, I know I go on about this!
Reduce ultra-processed foods and added sugars as they can spike anxiety and impact sleep
Include omega-3s from fish or flaxseeds to support mood regulation
Consider fermented foods like sauerkraut or kefir, for microbiome diversity
🌿 As a naturopath, I’ve seen the shift in energy, mood, and resilience that happens when we nourish the gut and regulate blood sugar.
👉 If you feel like you’ve tried everything for your anxiety or low mood, and something still feels off, your gut could be the missing piece. It really can be as simple as focusing on your diet.
