🌿 Reflecting on Mental Health Month and Moving Forward 🌿

As October’s Mental Health Month comes to a close, we want to remind everyone that caring for your mental well-being isn't limited to one month — it's an ongoing journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way. 💚

At our clinic, we believe in treating the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. Acupuncture is one of the powerful tools we use to help manage and improve mental health conditions, including:

✨ Stress & Anxiety Relief

Acupuncture reduces the body's stress response by balancing the nervous system and releasing endorphins (your brain’s “feel-good” chemicals).
It promotes relaxation, helping you feel grounded and more in control.

✨ Depression Management

Through targeted points, acupuncture helps restore emotional balance, improve sleep quality, and reduce fatigue.
It encourages the body’s natural healing processes and improves mood-regulating neurotransmitters like serotonin.

✨ Better Sleep and Energy

Insomnia and fatigue are common symptoms linked to mental health challenges. Acupuncture can regulate your body’s energy flow, improving sleep patterns and enhancing daytime energy.

✨ Chronic Pain and Emotional Well-Being

Physical pain can affect mental health, and acupuncture addresses both the emotional and physical aspects of pain, helping you feel lighter and more resilient.
Whether you’ve been working through anxiety, depression, burnout, or emotional imbalance, acupuncture offers a gentle, effective way to support your mental wellness naturally. 🌸

Let’s make mental health care a priority all year long. If you or someone you know needs support, we are here to help. Feel free to book an appointment or reach out with any questions. Together, we can create a healthier, more balanced future.

Take care of your mind — your body will thank you! 💆‍♀️💙

Feeling Burnt Out after Covid – Do you have Long Covid?

Here at Coastal Natural Therapies on the Gold Coast, our clinic has seen a surge in patients with fatigue symptoms that started after having Covid-19. This may be a symptom of what is now known as long Covid. Alongside this, other related symptoms we are seeing in the clinic include the following:

-Decreased immune response, getting sick more often than usual
-Fever when is a cough serious
-Lung (respiratory) issues
-Neurological symptoms or mental health conditions
-Joint or muscle pain
-Heart symptoms or conditions, including chest pain and fast or pounding heartbeat
-Digestive upset
-Blood clots and blood vessel (vascular) issues
-Changes in the menstrual cycle

At Coastal Natural Therapies we work alongside Doctors on the Gold Coast. We have noticed that people who present with Long Covid symptoms usually have had some of the following associated criteria:

-Multiple Covid-19 infections
-History of fever (Glandular or Epstein Barre, Ross River, Dengue or another exotic condition)
-Have had or have CFS/ME, FMS or POTS
-Previous or current burnout
-Traumatic event
-Hormonal imbalance – thyroid, s*x hormones

Thankfully, acupuncture can help treat Long Covid related symptoms. Beginning with an extensive initial consultation and treatment, we can figure out a plan best suited to your specific presentation. Treatment will consist of acupuncture and Chinese medicine and you may be given Chinese herbs. Treatment will take anywhere from 45-60mins, depending on your individual needs.

World Heart Day 29th September.

With World Heart Day around the corner, we would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to priortise self care where possible.

Keeping a healthy heart and managing stress involves techniques like deep breathing, mindfulness, regular exercise, a balanced diet, and seeking support from friends, family, or professionals.

Acupuncture can assist in gaining and maintaining a healthy heart by improving blood circulation throughout the body and within the heart specifically. Another way in which acupuncture benefits heart health is through the mechanism of homeostasis—acupuncture helps to bring the body back into a state of balance and health.

If you’re interested in how acupuncture could help you with maintaining a healthy heart, talk to us at Haynes Acupuncture on the Gold Coast. You can set up a time to chat with our experienced acupuncturists and start working towards a better and more active life – find out how acupuncture can make a difference for you.

As the seasonal change is soon upon on the Gold Coast when we move from winter to spring, our immune systems may need some readjusting. Hay fever can become problematic as we are ever sneezing, wiping our noses and itching our eyes.

Hay fever, or referred to in medical terms as Allergic Rhinitis (AR), is allergic reactions to airborne allergens such as seasonal grass, pollen, dust and animal dander. For some individuals, this often flares up during specific seasons whereas other individuals can experience these reactions year-round.

While we might take preventative steps to lessen our symptoms such as utilising hay fever medication (antihistamines), try to stay inside where possible, unfortunately it is inevitable for some people and hay fever will still persist. Research has shown that Acupuncture is an effective treatment for those experiencing hay fever!

In a recent meta-analysis study published in the BMC Journal: Chinese Medicine, researchers found that acupuncture was a safe and effective treatment for patients presenting with allergic rhinitis. Within the study they found that moxibustion significantly reduced the symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis which was measured using the Total Nasal Symptom Score (TNSS). Similarly, what was also found was that acupuncture in conjunction with conventional medicine such as antihistamines was a very effective method in treating AR as opposed to conventional medicine alone.

Here at Haynes Acupuncture Gold Coast we can guide you through your health journey and walk you through the transitional period of winter to spring. We can help you in dealing with severe hay fever or just allergens in general. As we make this transition from winter to spring it is important we continue to care and nourish our body. We currently have four fully qualified Acupuncturists and a Naturopath available 6 days a week to assist you with your hay fever and allergy struggles.

To make an appointment you can book online or you can call 07 5531 6461 to talk to our friendly reception staff.

Acupuncture during winter is one of the best ways you can boost your immune system during the colder months here on the Gold Coast.

The ancient Chinese believed that human beings should live in harmony with the natural cycles of their environment. The cold and darkness of winter urges us to slow down. This is the time of year to reflect on our health, replenish our energy and conserve our strength. Winter represents the most Yin (female) aspect in Chinese medicine.

Kidney weakness involves general physical weakness, as well as increased susceptibility to external and internal illnesses. The most common cause weakening the energy exchange of the kidneys are the strong demands on our body by our ‘civilized world’. Both mental and physical overexertion and stress often lead first to kidney weakness. Too much work under time pressure, a hasty, unbalanced and insufficient diet, and not enough time for rest and relaxation can weaken kidney energy within weeks or months. If such constant exhaustion is not balanced or taken care of, serious disorders can develop in the course of a few years. Other negative factors are excessive s*xual activity and emotional factors such as fear or a sudden mental shock.

The foods to eat during Winter are the ones that naturally grow during this season –

root vegetables (carrots, parsnips, potato)
winter greens
mushrooms
apples
pears
citrus fruits
nuts
beans
grains
In the Winter our body needs warm foods – so soups made from vegetables and rich stocks with animal bones are nourishing. Specific foods to nourish and warm the Kidneys include black beans, kidney beans, bone broths, lamb, chicken, walnuts, chestnuts, black sesame seeds, and dark leafy greens. A small amount of unrefined sea salt added to home-cooked foods is also helpful since the taste associated with the Kidney organ is “salty.”

So look after yourself this winter and stay warm (neck and feet particularly).

Life Balance.

Coastal Natural therapies main mission is to restore all patients to full health, whether that is physically, mentally or emotionally. The clinic offers a treatment of the whole person, taking the time to establish the cause of certain problems or uncertainties, then developing a step by step plan to help you. One thing we often see is people who become too consumed with day to day activities that they rarely take time out for themselves to rest and restore. Neglecting to rest and recoup can result in:

-Exhaustion
-Fatigue
-Anxiety
-Stress
-Mood swings
-Energy deficiency

It is important to develop a strong self-awareness and recognise when you are doing too much. Some things you can do to avoid the above symptoms are:

-Take a walk or engage in low intensity exercise
-Read a book
-Cook a meal for yourself or with a friend or partner
-Engage in relaxation activities; meditation or yoga
-Go for a drive or short trip away.

It is also important in your rest time to avoid stimulants such as caffeine or depressants such as alcohol. Allowing your body to recover is always helped with a good diet. Taking time for you is extremely important for overall health and wellbeing. Avoiding it can create bigger health issues, hormonal imbalances and overall body depletion.

You should never feel selfish about putting yourself first. If you are feeling overwhelmed, overworked or exhausted, don’t hesitate to visit us today, we can help you get your health back on track. For more information about our practitioners or the clinic, contact us today on 5531 6461 or email info@coastalnaturaltherapies.com.au.

Chinese cupping therapy, an ancient healing practice that dates back thousands of years, has garnered widespread attention in recent years for its potential health benefits. This traditional Chinese medicine technique involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, promoting blood flow and relieving various ailments.

Benefits of Chinese Cupping Therapy
Pain Relief: Cupping therapy is often used to alleviate pain, including back pain, neck pain, and muscle soreness. The improved blood circulation and release of tension can provide relief from chronic discomfort.
Stress Reduction: Many people find cupping therapy to be deeply relaxing. The cups’ gentle suction and massage-like effect can help reduce stress and promote a sense of well-being.
Enhanced Healing: Cupping therapy may expedite the body’s natural healing processes by promoting circulation and reducing inflammation. It is sometimes used as a complementary treatment for injuries or chronic conditions.

Chinese cupping therapy offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine. Cupping aims to promote circulation, release toxins, and restore balance to the body’s energy systems by applying suction cups to the skin. As interest in holistic healing continues to grow, Chinese cupping therapy is a time-honoured practice with the potential to complement Western treatments and promote overall well-being. Whether seeking relief from pain, stress, or chronic conditions, many individuals are turning to this ancient healing art in search of natural remedies and holistic care.

Head colds, coughs, and the flu are common respiratory illnesses that can leave us feeling miserable and exhausted. These conditions often share similar symptoms, making it essential to distinguish between them. A head cold typically presents with a runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, and a sore throat. Coughs can accompany both head colds and the flu, with symptoms ranging from a dry, irritating cough to one with mucus production. In contrast, the flu can lead to more severe symptoms such as high fever, body aches, and fatigue. Understanding the nuances of these illnesses is crucial for effective treatment, and acupuncture offers a holistic approach to addressing their underlying causes.

The Role of Acupuncture in Head Cold, Cough, And Flu

Acupuncture, an ancient Chinese healing practice, has gained recognition recently for its potential to treat various health conditions, including head colds, coughs, and the flu. This holistic approach to healing focuses on restoring balance within the body. For respiratory illnesses like head colds, coughs, and the flu, acupuncture can help alleviate symptoms, boost the immune system, and enhance overall well-being. It offers a complementary approach to conventional treatments, providing relief and supporting the body’s ability to recover.

Numerous clinical studies have explored the efficacy of acupuncture in treating respiratory conditions like head colds, coughs, and the flu. Research indicates that acupuncture can help reduce the severity and duration of symptoms, improve immune system response, and enhance overall well-being.
These studies highlight the potential of acupuncture as a safe and effective complementary treatment option for respiratory illnesses. When combined with conventional therapies, acupuncture can provide a holistic approach to recovery, offering relief and supporting the body’s natural healing processes.
