Have you recently had surgery? ✨️
If so, you may feel some hardness under the skin close to the incision sight. If you've had liposuction or lipoedema extraction surgery, the hardness may be over a larger area. ✨️
This is fibrotic tissue and is not uncommon to observe post surgery. It involves the thickening and scarring of connective tissue, and is significantly different from post surgery swelling - which is soft and fluidy. ✨️
It is important to prevent and/or treat this fibrotic tissue, as the longer you leave it the harder it can become, causing pain, stiffness and disconfort. ✨️
It can also prevent the flow of lymphatic fluid, causing congestion and more swelling. ✨️
The best way to manage fibrosis is by wearing your compression garment as directed by your surgeon. ✨️
It's also important to have a lymphatic drainage massage soon after surgery to help encourage lump flow. Especially important to find a therapist qualified in post surgery lymphatic drainage.✨️
A good balanced nutritious diet will help provide all the, proteins, vitamins and minerals to help you heal.✨️
Drinking plenty of filtered water is also essential to help lymph flow. ✨️
