240 years celebrations in Guysborough where Daniel Cogill Snr came from and settled in 1785, after receiving land grants for service for fighting with the British In the American Revolution. He was a Grenadier in the 71st Highlander Regiment. Daniel had a son Daniel Cogle who was our Old Dan’s father.

Noel Cogill who is now 93 and lives in Maryborough. He shares my great grandfather’s name and Col’s birthday but a few years earlier. Charlotte Cogill née Home was granted the honour of opening the Mapleton War Memorial recognising the War effort her family provided - her husband George Henry Cogill Snr, a WWI veteran was active in the CMF, her oldest son James Donald Cogill (Don) CMF, daughters Marion Branscombe née Cogill AWAS, Eva May Conway nee Cogill AWAS, Violet McGee née Cogill RAAF. Also sons George Henry Jnr AIF, Douglas Birdwood Cogill (Doug) AIF, Gordon Robert Cogill (Bob) AIF POW Changi/Burma Rail, John William Cogill AIF who was awarded the Military Medal (MM) and Stanley Cogill AIF.
