Can you image having to hitch all these bullocks up. I remember dad saying it was one of his jobs, as a very young boy, to hitch bullocks - while living at Mapleton. George Henry Cogill and many of his sons had or worked bullock teams including my granddad Don. Jim Cogill, son of Old Dan had teams down on the Maroochy River. Old Dan, and his sons had and worked Teams. Hugh in Tiaro and Maryborough region, William Cogill in Tolgo, Tablelands, John Cogill Helidon and Brisbane region. George H Browne, husband of Elizabeth Cogill worked until 1950s with teams at Diddillibah - even after a dray accident. This info is from census records sorry if I missed your branch. We have photos of George Henry’s and Jim’s teams. Would love to see any other working photos of the family.

For the family researchers - Familysearch.org is a free ancestry collection of worldwide data. They have scanned all of their microfilm records and they are now available online. A new feature is the “Full text” feature under search. AI has attempted to transcribe documents (not totally correct) but names are now coming up in search. I have been working through the deeds of Daniel Cogill 71st Regiment in Guysborough and have uncovered some fantastic records of the original farm which I visited last year. The Cogill family appear to have moved from the inner town of Guysborough to Lot 28,29 - containing 30 acres each - Front Division Milford Haven 1796.

Happy to discuss if you are interested. I’ve located at least 14 deeds referencing our family from 1784 to 1890 in the Guysborough area. Old Dan’s father may have occupied land as late as 1860.

Interesting. Don’t know how good the source is but Cogill/Cogle/Coghill Caithness farms are all around this area. My brothers BigY DNA links us back to a very old Cogill Caithness family.

We have bricklayers in the family. Any masons?

Lest we forget.

I’m aware we have several other warriors but alias no photos.

Old Dan’s father and grandfather were also soldiers. His sons George and Donald were in WWI. Many of their descendents were also soldiers.

A quick search on the any War records you will find many Cogill relatives. And yes even Coghill/ Cogle/Cogell/Coggill Caithness/USA relatives.

I have an extensive public Family tree - cogill Family tree on Ancestry which details our distant relatives now slowly being verified with DNA matching.

Still not sure on the Caithness family we directly belong to but have been trawling through Military records. Lots of Cogills in the Black Watch.

If interested please email on contact details here

Family story that Old Dan raised money to get married by working on the road to Gympie. This is before he had his first selection at Buderim. I was told it was on this section of country. Photo from Dunethin Rock, Maroochy River. Not sure what side he worked on. Does anyone know?

240 years celebrations in Guysborough where Daniel Cogill Snr came from and settled in 1785, after receiving land grants for service for fighting with the British In the American Revolution. He was a Grenadier in the 71st Highlander Regiment. Daniel had a son Daniel Cogle who was our Old Dan’s father.
