There is nothing more profitable in our lives than merging in with nature.
Human beings are originally members of nature, therefore it is after we blend ourselves with nature that we are able to feel the joy of living.
To commune with nature we need to make ourselves free and jump into her.
Then simply look into what we see with our eyes, hear with our ears, and feel with our skin, to learn as much as we can from it.

Dr. Tomitarล Makino (1862โ€“1957) was a pioneering Japanese botanist known as the Father of Japanese Botany. Largely self-taught, he discovered and named hundreds of plant species and created the Illustrated Flora of Japan. His lifelong passion for plants helped lay the foundation for modern botanical research in Japan.

What fills your cup?

For me, itโ€™s the simple things that bring me back to balance. Time in nature, feeling the sun on my skin, listening to the birds, and hearing Harley beside me. Itโ€™s the quiet presence of my horses, who remind me to slow down and breathe or Dukes gentle playfulness. Itโ€™s music that shifts my mood, laughter shared with friends, and those small glimmers that appear when I least expect them - a flower in bloom, a gentle breeze, seeing whales playing on my morning walk.

We all need ways to refill our cup, especially when life feels busy or overwhelming. When I take the time to notice what nourishes me, I can show up more fully for myself and others.

This kookaburra sat with us most of the day at today. Others came and went, but this one stayed close.

In many traditions, kookaburras are teachers. They symbolise laughter as medicine, the power of joy to shift heavy energy, and the reminder not to take life too seriously. They also speak of community, connection, and sharing space with others. Their watchful nature teaches patience and presence - being still, grounded, and attentive to what is around us.

In a therapeutic space, the kookaburraโ€™s teachings are clear: healing can include laughter, connection, and presence. Sometimes the most powerful moments come not from words, but from sitting together in calm awareness.

Balancing Tasks and Connection in Groups and Families

Every group or family has two important needs:

TASKS โ€“ the things that need to get done, like planning, problem solving, or keeping daily life on track

CONNECTION โ€“ caring for each other, listening, encouraging, and easing tension

Itโ€™s natural to get stuck sometimes. We might focus so much on tasks that relationships feel strained, or spend so much energy on keeping everyone happy that things donโ€™t get done.

A few gentle ways to balance both:
- Pause and notice how people are feeling, even briefly
- Share responsibilities so no one person carries everything
- Acknowledge both effort and emotions

Allow moments for connection alongside getting things done

Itโ€™s not easy, and every group or family finds its own rhythm. Small, consistent steps toward balance can help tasks get done while relationships stay strong.

โ€œI am not on my own. I can go into a paddock with horses in it. I learnt different ways to regulate my emotions.
A great way to start the healing process from domestic violence. It was challenging and confronting, but in a good way. The horses were amazing. Mel, Lee and Tracey were very supportive, non-judgmental and patient. I would highly recommend this course.โ€
