This was a session was at the Currumbin river mouth with dad Jack and son Barry and what an experience. It was definitely a first for me. They were visiting from China (Another Air bnb booking) and apart from a few words, our entire communication was on dads translation app. Was odd at the start of but ended up being easy and fun. We were “on the bite” from our first cast and ended up with a haul of 23 fish.

Honest to goodness, taking Sara fishing was an absolute pleasure. She’s from Spain, lives in Melbourne and is holidaying here on the Coast. She booked my experience through my Air BnB page and from the minute we met we started chatting and never stopped 😂. I genuinely love seeing the thrill on people’s faces after hooking up and landing their first fish and shel was so happy. We ended up catching 15 Bream and for a change more than one or two were well over legal. All released safely though. See you next time when you and your partner are here

Say hi to Claire, we had such a good time, her “Irishness” was both upbeat and funny as. Her casting technique was outer worldly but we got that sorted, and seriously, what a fast learner. Within half an hour she doubled then tripled her casting distance, but more importantly her accuracy was impressive. Sorry, only the one pic. I am so old lol, she was using I think instagram, pics and live vids, and her friends were watching and replying in real time. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
Looking forward to the next booking with one or two of her friends.

Long overdue, sorry.
I had the most amazing experience in Canada, landed in Vancouver then on to Haida Gwaii where our dear friends Dan and Nadine picked us up and we were straight off the plane and straight onto the boat. Loved the incredible scenery, wildlife, people and culture, food, history, of course the 8-9 hours on the water every day, and most of all the love and friendship of Dan, Nadine and their sons Levi and Reece. Here are a few pics, hope you enjoy.

Hey Flat Water Fishing family, 14 hr flight to Vancouver, a short flight across to Haida Gwaii, our wonderful hostess Nadine picked me and my nephew Wilson up and drove us straight to the mariner where her amazing husband Danny was waiting on his charter boat, all fuelled and ready. The views along the coastal waterways were nothing short of spectacular, eagles diving for fish, deer everywhere, sadly did not manage to see a bear though.
The salmon fishing was epic

Had an awesome session with Chevy and Zac out at Jacobs Well. Caught lots of Bream on my Veritas and Black Savage then turned attention to their $9.99 rod from Cash Converters😂. I quickly snipped the mainline, introduced a new set up and step by step walked them through making their own rigs. Next minute, hit after hit then 💥this 69-70cm Flatty. Had her walk it from the jetty to the beach ✅
I sent out the final cast of the session on my lightest set up (6lb) and landed this fat as Tailor. Lots of legal sized Bream, the Flatty and the Tailor. They love fishing but not so much the eating of seafood so very gratuitously passed them on to a very appreciative angler.

Shout out to Andrew (dad of Fergus) who has been looking after three fishing mad teenagers for a few days. It was a cracking day, a nice high tide and the fish were on the bite. They all brought their own rods and were keen to learn a few new techniques.
First up: Rod set up, balance, reel, line weight, correct sinker.
Second: Rig choice
Third: Bait choice and bait presentation
Fourth: Casting
Fifth: patience, knowing when to set hook (striking)
Sixth: Retrieval methods with fish on and with no fish but around rocks.
In short, the boys did an awesome job, listened incredibly well, put things shared into practice and the result= Everyone landed fish and they all had a great time.

A record set today (Wednesday 09/07)
I took 8 yr old Harvey to Shorncliffe Pier and for our four hour session we caught 43 fish. My previous record for 4 hours was 38. Admittedly we had three rods out but they regularly went off. Unfortunately not a single Tailor or anything else, other than a single small Snapper, all the rest, Bream. At 8yrs old Harvey is an experienced angler, hes passionate, keen and is locked in every time we go out. He handles both light gear and heavier rods, can throw an 8’ cast net and has finessed big fish all the way to the beach.

Hung out with Steve and Billy fishing off the rock wall at the Spit on Tuesday morning and we had an absolute blast. What a slacker, I didn’t even get a pic with Billy or the massive number fish caught. It was Steve’s first ever Tailor though. Ended up with 24 Bream, four Tailor, a nice sized Flounder and a shovel nosed ray (shark) I also helped out three groups of youngsters who were struggling to catch anything and they were massively grateful which was nice. Big props to Steve’s 14 yr old son who’s landed a football development contract in England. Nice one ⚽️⚽️
