Urolithin A (UA) is a bioactive molecule produced by the gut microbiome from natural plant compounds found in foods such as pomegranates, walnuts, berries, and some other nuts.
After these foods are consumed, specific gut bacteria can convert ellagitannins and ellagic acid into Urolithin A. Not everyone produces this molecule efficiently, as the conversion process depends on individual gut microbiome composition and may change with age.
Current research continues to explore how Urolithin A supports normal cellular processes, including mitochondrial function and cellular renewal pathways. For this reason, it has gained interest within integrative and longevity-focused care as part of a broader, preventative approach to health.
