Halloween is a celebration of the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the dark, cold winter. Second, it is a time to remember the dead and to protect oneself from evil spirits. Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which was celebrated on November 1.

Headway ABI Australia Ltd (Headway ABI) is a local, Not–for–profit organisation supporting people in the Gold Coast community who have an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). We are a Registered Charity, fully accredited to the Human Services Quality Framework and are a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ) provider.
Our organisation was originally formed by a small group of families with members with ABI, who saw a need to provide specific support for people with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). The service was incorporated under the Associations Incorporations Act 1981 in July 1986, as Headway Gold Coast Regional Group Inc., and remained in force until the change to its present name in October 1993.
Headway ABI services an area from Coolangatta to Beenleigh and our clients come to us from Brisbane and Gold Coast hospitals, community and disability services, clinics, as well as family, friends and self-referrals.
People who have serious disabilities following an acquired brain injury, require long term rehabilitation, both physical and neurological, to enable them to return to their community and/or family. Sadly these people are discharged from hospital without having been given the opportunity to receive the ongoing support and rehabilitation they require, the result being long term deteriorating disability, and family breakdown.
Headway ABI strives to provide support not only to their service users but also to family, friends and the community. Headway ABI also undertakes fundraising activities in the community to acquire the funds necessary to provide our many service users with supports, which they would otherwise be unable to access.
Headway ABI has a Management Board which is responsible for the strategic direction and governance oversight of Headway ABI on behalf of it's members. The Board is a voluntary group of people who are committed to improving the quality of life for people with an ABI disability. Organisational management of Headway ABI is by the Chief Executive Officer under the direction of the Executive Board.
