Congrats to our amazing member Kerrie Brailsford who has made incredible progress in her health and fitness journey.
This is her testimonial:
I had been exercising regularly at home using a structured fitness program and home gym setup. While I was committed and consistent, it was a solitary experience, and I began to worry that my motivation might eventually fade.
My hesitation to join a gym stemmed from a traumatic experience over 30 years ago. It left me with a severe fear of gyms β something close to PTSD. I would become overwhelmed and emotional even talking about it. However, after much encouragement from a friend who was already a member, I finally decided to give Beyond a try.
My initial goal in joining wasnβt physical β it was emotional. I needed to overcome my fear. From the start, Shane Gregory was incredibly supportive, encouraging me to simply show up and see how it felt. The instructors at my first classes β Fiona, Cindy, and Brendan β were welcoming, empathetic, and attentive. Their encouragement made all the difference; without their personal support, I may not have made it through the second class. But I did β and my confidence has grown exponentially ever since.
Now, attending Beyond has become a regular and enjoyable part of my routine. Itβs something I genuinely look forward to. If I miss a class due to other commitments, I truly feel the absence. I especially enjoy the ability to mix and match classes, such as following a Pilates session with a strength and conditioning class β they complement each other beautifully and work different muscle groups. Booking via the app adds great flexibility and ease.
What sets Beyond apart is its focus on the over-40s community. Classes are thoughtfully designed with our bodies and potential limitations in mind. Instructors offer tailored options to accommodate injuries or mobility issues, and they always listen and adapt based on individual needs. The environment is relaxed, inclusive, and often filled with laughter.
After almost every session, someone inevitably says, βThat was a great class.β And itβs true β I always leave feeling stronger, more energised, and uplifted. Despite the variety of fitness levels, everyone is supported and challenged appropriately. Thereβs a shared sense of community, belonging, and mutual encouragement. And yes, thereβs usually a small group heading off for coffee afterwards!
On one occasion, when my brother was visiting from Melbourne, I brought him along to a double class so we could still spend time together. He had never been to a gym class or lifted weights before, but he immediately picked up on the inclusive, non-judgmental atmosphere. Afterward, he told me that if he lived locally, he would join without hesitation.
Whether you're male or female, a seasoned athlete, or someone just starting out and wanting to move more, Beyond offers a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment.
