When your abs are weak, your lower back has to do all the work to keep you upright and stable, which puts extra strain on your spine and can cause back pain. This why these 3 exercises target your abdominal area and not “your back”.

1. A lumbar/pelvic hip control is basically your body’s ability to stabilize and control the lower back, pelvis, and hips during movement.

Why it helps: This movement teaches your hips and lower back to move properly together and keeps your pelvis stable. This will protect you from injury, and make your movements stronger and more efficient.

2. An anti-extension movement is an exercise that prevents your lower back from arching or extending, by engaging your core muscles.

Why it helps: This movement strengthens the front core muscles (abs) so your lower back isn’t taking over.

3. A weighted side bend targets your obliques (the muscles on the sides of your core) these muscles help support your spine and keep your lower back stable.”

Why it helps: This movement strengthens your obliques and side core, which support your spine from side-to-side forces.
