If each of us made the effort, every single day, to pause and really look at all the wonderful things we already have in our lives, we would be amazed at how much lighter we feel. Gratitude is not just a word, it’s a daily exercise, a discipline of shifting our attention from what’s missing or broken, to what is already here and whole.
There are always many, many things to be grateful for. Sometimes they are small; a smile, a song, a hug, the warmth of the sun, and sometimes they are immense. But together they add up to a completely different way of living.
Happiness doesn’t arrive from the outside. It grows within us when we learn to see, to appreciate, and to give thanks.
