Happy New Year! ✨🎉
We had a very busy December, but have had some magical days lately with bush walks, friend-visits, motorbike rides, creek swims, pool swims - the lot!
How are your new years resolutions setting in? Or are you still in holiday bliss and haven't made a start as yet?
We often want change in our life...but did you know, unless you actually sit down and work out how you are going to implement those changes, they usually won't happen?
If you want 2025 to be your year that you lose the weight, feel lighter, healthier and happier...you first need to work out the when , where, how, what and why.
For example, our conversation about your NY resolution might look like:
You: "I want to lose weight"...
Me: "Great! How are you going to do that?"
You "Work-out every day for 1 hr & eat salad"
Me "But HOW are you going to do that, lets be specific..."
You "......"
See the thing is, in order to create success, the specific are actually crucial!
Here is a few tips:
➡️Don't raise the bar too high initially - make it achievable. I.e. I'm going to aim to move my body daily for 10 mins
➡️Note when you are going to do it i.e. I will go for a 10 min walk as soon as my alarm goes off. Prepare the night before - set out your runners, and active wear, decide where you are going to walk to
➡️Stack your healthy habits on your daily ones that already exist! i.e When you get out of bed to the alarm, or before/after a morning coffee.
➡️Decide the person you want to be and healthy habits to value. There's no point going on a "Diet" for one month - you will only end up back to square one. Start seeing yourself as someone who is active, and enjoys veggie juice!
➡️Don't set yourself up for sabotage. I.e. If you hate walking or running, choose a movement you enjoy instead - maybe it can be more incidental like you love mountain biking - great, go do more! Don't fill your fridge with foods that you know will be way too tempting to have on-hand. Create a super fridge full of healthy goodies and snacks that you can have UNLIMITED access to.
On another note, I have found in clinic some good motivators to get the ball rolling for healthy new years resolutions, especially weight loss is Food Compatibility Testing.
