The research shows us that your body has natural pathways to clear PFAS and microplastics, and targeted naturopathic support can meaningfully accelerate this process.

Here’s an evidence-informed plan to increase excretion and reduce your toxic load:

1. Support your liver
Phase I & II detoxification is where the magic happens. Key foods include broccoli sprouts (can be taken as a powder or a capsule), green tea, turmeric and St Mary’s Thistle.

2. Eat more fibre (seriously for a whole host of reasons)
Studies show that a higher dietary intake of fibre directly increases the excretion of “forever chemicals” via the GI tract. Aim for 25-35g per day from a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, legumes & whole grains.

3. Targeted antioxidant support
PFAS deplete glutathione and generate oxidative stress. Vitamin C, NAC, and glutathione have all shown protective effects in clinical studies.

This is the type of personalised 1:1 work I do with my patients, especially those preparing for conception.

The NHAA presented a fantastic (& rather shocking) webinar on the impact of microplastics and PFAS to health, and the implications for fertility are concerning.

It’s now clear that if you’re trying to conceive or preparing for IVF, this is something that your fertility plan needs to address.

Microplastics and PFAS (forever chemicals) are now found in human blood, breast milk, placentas and reproductive organs. They act as endocrine disruptors, interfering with the very hormones your body relies on to ovulate, conceive and carry a pregnancy.

In women this has been linked to PCOS, endometriosis, cycle irregularities and poor ovarian response.
In men, it shows up as reduced s***m count, poor motility and impaired DNA integrity.

The research is clear. These chemicals are affecting fertility and our wider reproductive health - including perimenopause.

This is just a highlight of how you may be exposed, follow along for the practical steps you can take to reduce your load and protect your hormones.

Why “Dawn Naturopathy”?

Dawn is my Nanna’s name 🤍

She wasn’t a naturopath…
But she has always been a huge inspiration in my life.

She was a true creative,
A fashion icon in her own right,
A strong woman who loved the beach, music,
And spent a lifetime with the love of her life, my Pa.

To me, she represents the generations before me.
And that meaning deepened even more during my own journey with infertility.

There was a time when I wasn’t sure if I would be able to have children… if I would get the chance to create the next generation.

But through a long IVF journey (supported by naturopathy) I was able to have my two beautiful boys.

So now “Dawn” holds even more meaning.

It represents from where we come from… and the possibility of what comes next.

In my practice, I support women and families to restore their health, find balance, and in some cases, create new generations of their own.

And beyond that..

“Dawn” also symbolises new beginnings.
The quiet, powerful moment where everything starts again. The first light after darkness.

Because healing is often exactly that - a fresh start.
A new beginning ✨

And I’ve always believed there is something incredibly powerful about choosing to begin again.

That’s why this had to be the name.

Dawn Naturopathy 🤍

When it comes to fertility, it’s not just about hormones.

It’s also about the environment those hormones are working in.

Minerals play a critical role in:
•egg development
•s***m health
•DNA integrity
•implantation
•and overall reproductive function

But it’s not just about identifying deficiencies.. it’s about balance.

Key minerals like zinc, selenium and iron are involved in protecting reproductive cells from oxidative stress and supporting mitochondrial function.

This matters because oxidative stress is one of the key factors impacting egg quality, s***m integrity and fertilisation outcomes.

A current 2024 paper in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences highlights the role of trace elements in antioxidant defence systems - particularly through enzymes that protect cells from oxidative damage (Wroblewski et al., 2024).

And importantly.. more is not always better.
Minerals interact with each other, and excess of one can impact the absorption or function of another.

This is why a personalised approach and thorough testing is key for guiding supplementation.

If you’d like to know more DM me for details.

“Unexplained infertility” doesn’t always mean that there’s no cause, sometimes it means we need to look a little deeper.

One of the tools I use in clinic is HTMA (hair tissue mineral analysis). It can offer insights into mineral patterns over time, stress response, and potential underlying imbalances that aren’t always obvious in standard testing.

One area where HTMA can be particularly useful is identifying heavy metal exposure, which is very relevant in fertility and preconception care.

That said, it’s important to keep this in perspective.
HTMA is not a replacement for thorough pathology investigation. Foundational testing should always include:
•hormone levels
•ovulation
•s***m quality
•autoimmune screening
•thyroid function
These form the core picture.

But, if you’ve been told everything looks “normal” on your pathology tests, but you’re still not falling pregnant, then HTMA may be one piece of the puzzle worth exploring.
DM me “HTMA” if you would like further details.

After running a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) for my son.. I saw firsthand how insightful it could be.

It offered a different perspective, looking at mineral patters over time, rather than just a single moment like a blood test.

HTMA can help identify patterns in mineral balance, stress response and even heavy metal exposure, all of which can influence how the body is functioning day to day.

From a clinical perspective this allows for more targeted, personalised support, and helps reduce the guesswork (& cost) of unnecessary supplementation.

It’s also simple, non-invasive and can be done from home, which makes it an accessible option for many people (& children).

After seeing the value in this, I completed further training in HTMA with laboratories so I could integrate it into my clinical work.

If you’re interested in a more personalised approach to your health, this is something I now offer in clinic.
Please DM me if you would like to learn more.

If your preparing for conception or navigating IVF, supporting the body with targeted, bio available nutrients can make a meaningful difference to both egg quality and early pregnancy foundations.

This knowledge I deeply value now ✨, and is something I truly wish I had access to during my own IVF journey.

In clinic, I focus on evidence-informed support that nourishes the body and protects DNA at a cellular level.

✨Here are three of my most commonly prescribed supplements:
• A high-quality prenatal with therapeutic doses
• DHA + Choline for early neurological development
• CoQ10 for egg quality and mitochondrial function

Every fertility journey is unique, and the right support should be tailored to your individual needs.

If you would like personalised guidance, please reach out. DM “fertility” and I will send you the details, or head over to my website (link in bio).

When I work with clients, we always begin with the foundations..
because this is what your body relies on every single day to function, regulate and heal.

It starts with the nervous system…
Because if your nervous system isn’t regulated, your body can’t respond the way we want it to. AND you won’t feel like you have the capacity to make meaningful change in your life.

From there, we can deep dive into..
- sleep quality
- hydration
- nutrient status (yes this usually requires a blood test)
- digestion & detox capacity
- blood sugar balance
- inflammation levels

Because when these things are out of balance, you will feel it.

And when they’re supported..
everything else becomes easier.

✨The right foundations create the environment your body needs to heal, and this is exactly what I do inside my Foundations Support program.

If you would like any further info, DM me “FOUNDATIONS” and I will share how I can support you.

Before we talk about “balancing hormones,” we need to talk about foundations.

Because you can’t optimise what isn’t supported.

You can be eating well, exercising, taking the supplements…
but if there’s an underlying imbalance, your body will keep signalling that something’s off.

This is where we need to pause and look a little deeper.

✨ Your symptoms aren’t random — they’re information.

If you’re ready to support your body at a foundational level, my Foundations Program is the perfect place to start.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like to learn more.

This is something I hear quite often from women:
“I’m doing everything right.. but I’m still struggling with symptoms.”

And it’s often not about doing more - but rather taking a deeper look to uncover which system is struggling.

This is exactly what I do inside my Foundations Support program.

We focus on the underlying systems your body relies on every day, so it can start to regulate, respond and and come back into balance.

If something in your body has been feeling “off” for a while, I can help you figure out what’s going on underneath.

DM me “foundations” and I’ll share how we can get started ✨

This is my glucose monitor while I was at the bath-house moving between spa, pool, sauna and cold plunge ❄️

No food.
No sugar.
Just water & unsweetened herbal tea.

This shows my body responding to environmental factors in real time.

Here’s the part we need to talk more about..
Your blood sugar isn’t just about what you eat.

In this scenario: Intense Heat or Intense Cold = physical STRESS -> which stimulates glucose release (from the liver & muscles)
Yes it’s the “stress” causing the blood sugar to spike & this can be caused by both physical stress and PSYCHOLOGICAL stress.

So if you feel like your energy, cravings and blood sugar levels are all over the place..
.it might not be your diet.

Your body responds to EVERYTHING and a deeper look may be warranted. I offer 1:1 naturopathic consults to help you understand your pattern and bring things back into balance 🤍

This is one of my favourite parts of practice ✨

Formulating liquid herbs allows me to create something that is completely tailored to the individual.

In a single blend, I can combine herbs to support multiple systems at once:

*adaptogens for the stress response
*immune modulators
*liver and detoxification support
*digestive function
*skin health

Each herb is selected with intention - not just for the symptoms, but for the underlying drivers of what’s going on.

This is where naturopathic medicine becomes both a science and an art.

No two formulas are ever the same.
