How to support our aching hearts?
In the last ten days I have started every morning with tears.
The heart is too broken to handle any more suffering. I cannot un-see what I have seen and heard from family and friends in Israel. I have not felt such deep pain since my father passed away.
In the evening, I hold my heart, whispering it will be ok, meditating as tears flow down my face.
As a Yoga Therapist I was trying everything I know to help me find balance and nourish my heart. I wanted to share the little things that can hopefully help during these difficult days:
1. Let people know you are not OK.
I was surprised with the amount of support I have received from friends and colleagues. Being far away has its challenges and having support network helps!
2. Reduce the amount of visuals.
I want to know what's happening and offer support, but consuming too many videos (mostly ones around suffering, abuse and hate) are feeding the wrong seeds in us and take us deeper into despair. Know your limit, look after your spirit.
3. Find something positive to focus on at least once a day.
My attempt for meditation these days might end up with tears, but I always try to start it with something positive to focus on (your loved ones, your dog, your cat, a kind act done lately, anything you can think of!)
4. Move.
I have stopped doing all the things I love because I felt depleted. Practicing Yoga, spending time in nature, walking on the beach are all nourishing activities that supports our spirit. Nourish yourself so you can help others🙏
