Sleep deprivation in motherhood isn’t just “being tired.”
It’s the foggy brain, the short fuse, the tears that come out of nowhere, the wondering of how am I meant to keep doing this?
And yet… we do.
We keep showing up, loving, soothing, trying again the next night 🤍
If you’re in the trenches of broken sleep, you’re not failing. Your nervous system is just exhausted.
Be gentle with yourself today. I am.

Mothering through an attachment lens 🤍
A secure base for exploring, and a safe haven to return to.

Play might look like chaos (and a living room full of cushions), but moments like this are actually doing really important work.

When children play with a parent nearby-laughing, building, imagining- they’re learning that the world is safe, that connection is available, and that their ideas matter.

These small, ordinary moments are where secure attachment grows. Even if the couch never fully recovers. 🫠

Toddler: pure joy, chaos and zero concern for personal safety.
Mums: mildly panicked but pretending everything is okay.

I brought snacks, towels, hats, spare clothes, sunscreen and emotional support so he could spend the entire time drinking pool water 🙃

Self- esteem level today:
*endorsed by a 4 year old*

5 stars. Would recommend.
Also slightly concerned he’s already perfected sweet- talking.

Honestly just letting him live his best chaotic little life 😅🛝

So much of modern parenting is built on the fear of getting it wrong. Wrong feeding choice. Wrong sleep approach. Wrong moment to respond. But I have never seen adults harmed by being loved, comforted, fed, or responded to.

Babies don’t need perfection. They need presence. They need good-enough parenting, done over and over again.

If you’re worrying about whether you are doing enough, that already tells me how much you care.
You’re not failing. You’re parenting.

Each Christmas, there’s a quiet tradition: a baby blanket is wrapped and placed under the tree as a symbol of hope, with the wish that by the following Christmas there will be a baby to wrap in it. 🎄🤍

I continue this tradition each year for the women we support at Brighter Beginnings Psychology—women who are longing, waiting, and holding so much hope in their hearts. This blanket sits under the tree as a promise of belief, compassion, and care, with the hope that by next Christmas, these women will have their babies safe in their arms, wrapped in love rather than longing.

If Christmas with young kids feels more overwhelming than magical right now, I get it! You’re not failing. You are parenting in a very full season.

Friday hits different when your coworkers are tiny, messy, and call you Mum!

When your toddler’s prefrontal cortex hasn’t quite caught up with their confidence 😅 No fear and zero regard for gravity!

Sending love to all the parents quietly calculating the odds of an ED visit this week 💛
