I love the idea of an accessibility familiarisation day.

Well done Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) 🌻

🌻 The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ’s Accessibility Familiarisation Day is back!

This Sunday, 9 November, ticket holders with both hidden and physical disabilities are invited to take part in a free accessibility tour of the MCG — designed to help you feel confident and comfortable ahead of an event day.

The tour includes experiencing the ‘G Train mobility shuttle, security checks, ticket scanning, meeting MCG staff, and visiting your seating area and accessible facilities.

If you’re heading to an upcoming event like AC/DC’s POWER UP Tour, this is a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with the venue before the big day. 🎶

Our team from the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower will be there to chat about the program and share Sunflower lanyards with attendees. 💛

What a great visual on the ‘emotional cup’ we all have within us. It’s great as adults for us to also reflect on what fills and empties our cup ☕️

GOOD VISUAL AND EXPLANATION WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP A CHILD'S EMOTIONAL CUP FULL

How parents might recognize signs that a child might be experiencing emotional difficulties and how to help.

Something I have been thinking about...

If we give children with visual differences glasses and,
children with hearing differences hearing aids and,
children with oral differences braces...

Why do we not give children with dyslexia/dyscalculia/dysgraphia calculators and alternatives to writing such as voice-to-text?

Remediation has its place for some students but for many, it's not enough.

Why do these kids need to struggle through school, fail maths and English on their report cards and potentially cause lifelong self-esteem issues and anxiety?

What a tragic loss but a beautiful story of the power of music.
Rest in peace Kyan 🕊

Twelve-year-old Kyan Pennell was tragically killed in a farm accident last month. Now classical musicians will record his music to play at his funeral on Sunday.

Love this, the same could be said for 5 and 6 year olds.

Today’s children have long lives ahead of them. There is no need or evidence to suggest that pushing academics early has long term benefits but we all know the lasting impact of play, emotional development and social skill opportunities on adulthood.

I want to shout this from the rooftops to every single person who works with four-year-olds. And three-year-olds too! (And five- and six-year-olds, if you ask me and if you ask the evidence, but hey, let's start with four.)

Moving academics *earlier* does not make anyone better off. Anyone.

Not the child, who's being asked to do something developmentally inappropriate, and is learning that they're bad at it, and that school and academic work is no fun and terrible and a mismatch for their skill set. Lifelong lessons.

Not the adult, who's trying to force someone to do something they physically and mentally cannot do yet.

Not society, who is burning out their most valuable resource and what should be their most valued and protected members.

It benefits nobody to move academics earlier and earlier. Stop making 4yos write and trace letters!

I think all of us can feel this way on occasion but those from the Autistic community even more so.

I think all of us can feel this way on occasion but those from the Autistic community even more so.

'Autism is a “dynamic disability”. What this means is capacity & functioning are not concrete & may fluctuate dependent on factors such as environment, cognition, executive function, processing capacity, Interoception/exteroception, neuro-fatigue, anxiety, communication differences, burnout & sensory overwhelm. This means Autistics may be capable of a task one day, but unable to perform the task at another.'

It’s dyslexia awareness month and Richard Branson wanted to share his message of hope.

Not everyone with dyslexia will go to become another Richard Branson but more than ever, the world really needs dyslexic thinking.

It’s dyslexia awareness month and I want to share a message of hope for the future. More than ever, the world really needs dyslexic thinking.
