☀ BEING PROACTIVE THIS SUMMER: KEEP YOUR BODY MOVING, NOT RECOVERING! ☀

Summer is the season where we dive back into the things we love – hiking, long beach walks, backyard cricket, social sport, gardening marathons (we see you rose-pruners), and last-minute “yeah I’ll join in!” activities.

But every year, we see the same pattern… injuries flare up when enthusiasm outweighs preparation.

Here are some simple proactive tips to help you avoid injury and stay active all summer:

🔥 Warm up (yes, even in 35°C)
Our muscles and tendons still need a wake-up. 5–8 minutes of light mobility or brisk walking changes everything.

💧 Hydrate more than you think you need
Even mild dehydration reduces performance and increases cramping and strain risk.

🏃‍♂️ Increase gradually (The 10% Rule)
If you’re returning to running, cycling, gym or sport – add time, distance or intensity slowly. Your heart may say “let’s go!” but your tendons prefer “whoa.”

🏖 Mix up the surfaces
Sand, slopes, uneven trails and water resistance are fantastic—but only in doses! Variety builds resilience; sudden changes load joints in ways they’re not used to.

🧊 If something starts to ni**le – don’t ignore it
A tight calf, achy knee or sore shoulder isn’t always “nothing”. Small changes early prevent big problems later.

😴 Recovery is training too
Sleep, rest days and stretching count. You’re not losing progress—you're locking it in.

⭐ Most injuries develop from overload — not one big moment.
A little planning now = more games played, more walks finished and more fun.

🎄🍕 Christmas Cheers, Farewell & a Warm Welcome! 🍾✨

What a fantastic night celebrating our Christmas dinner, Michelle’s retirement, and a big welcome to Kerryn at the fabulous local favourite Pizzerella!

After 14 incredible years, we wish Michelle all the joy, bubbles, adventures (and patience with Gary 😂) that retirement brings — you’ll always be part of our family and Fridays simply won’t be the same!

And as one chapter closes, another begins…
We’re excited to pass the “Girl Friday” crown 👑 to Kerryn, who will be the new friendly face greeting you on Fridays.

When she’s not at our reception desk, Kerryn is a keen gardener, and the unofficial Mum’s Taxi 🚕 supporting son Harry’s burgeoning sporting career. She’s also a Geelong supporter… but don’t worry, we won’t hold that too strongly against her 😉💙🤍

🦶 Guess who's experiencing ankle rehab first-hand? 👋

Yep… your friendly physio (the one who usually gives you exercises) is now the one doing them.

Turns out it’s much easier to prescribe heel raises than to actually do them yourself.
Karma? Possibly. Educational? Definitely.

The Ankle Arthroscopy Journey: A Very Honest Timeline

Week 1–2:
• Me: “Rest, swelling control, gentle mobility.”
• Also me: Hobbles around at work grunting
Week 3–6:
• Strength + balance training.
• Realisation: calf muscles disappear faster than snacks in the staff room. ( Im also the one responsible for disappearance of said snacks!)

Week 6+ (aka The "Fun" Stage): Not here yet
• Back to jumping, cutting, running 👟 Did i do this before? NO!!!
but we will adapt to the things that are relevant to my lifestlye, hiking, balance and jumping ( onto boats)

What I've Learnt So Far 🤣

✔ Rehab works — even when you wish it didn’t involve so many step-ups
✔ A structured plan really is the difference between walking normally and doing penguin impressions.
✔ Physios are just human… until you make us do our own exercises 😅

If you're going through ankle surgery or any other rehab too — I feel you.
Literally. In my ankle. Every morning. 😜
