🩷 HELLO FRIENDS 🩷

It’s been a while between posts and that's because my energy has been devoted to transitioning my parents into Aged Care 🧓

It's been an intense experience for my whole family, emotionally, mentally physically and energetically to say the least, but it's very comforting to know my parents are safe and well cared for, especially as I live 5 hours away from them ⌚

So although my social media presence has been quiet, behind the scenes, Portland Holistic Beauty Therapy has been humming along with my love for offering Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage, Relaxation Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Cupping and Gua Sha Therapy, Reiki Energy Healing, Sugar Waxing and Brow and Lash Enhancements 😍

I'll still here, just a little quieter as I rejuvenate my energy levels ⚡

Sending so much love, gratitude and blessings to all my clients, past and present for choosing me to treat you with your self care during 2025 😍

Life can certainly feel like being on a rollercoaster at times, with it's highs and lows and I've loved offering a safe space for nervous systems where clients are able to relax, laugh, cry, debrief, share their story and heal emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.

It's easy to get caught up in the rush rush energy of this time of year, so I'll remind you (note to self), that's its OK to excuse yourself and take a moment or ten to ground your nervous system (the toilet is always a good place to hide 😉), belly breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds and breathe out the energy for 4 seconds and observe the calmness that happens in your body and mind 😌

The health of our Lymphatic System is paramount in defending our body's ability to fight disease and infection

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
Massage is a gentle, non-invasive massage technique aimed at stimulating the lymphatic system to encourage the removal of toxins, waste, and excess fluid from the body. It involves light, rhythmic strokes that mimic the natural rhythm and direction of Lymph flow 💧

Below are some of the many conditions MLD can be used for:

🌸 Post surgery to greatly assist in preventing scarring of the area and enable the body to remove unwanted fluid at the site thus preventing infection
🌸 Pre surgery for softening and relaxing tissues that need to be operated on
🌸 Edemas (oedema) sprained ankle and other post traumatic conditions can be treated effectively with immediate application of RICE therapy in conjunction with MLD
🌸Lympodema - tissue swelling both primary (genetic) and secondary (caused by damage or blockages)
🌸Lipedema (abnormal fat deposits under the skin of the legs and sometimes arms which occurs mainly in women)

Win/Win situation 🙌

For health reasons, not all clients can comfortably lay on a massage bed, which is where this massage chair came in handy for my client who has had back surgery 🪑

It was his first time receiving a massage in the massage chair and my first time giving him a massage using the massage chair. We were both very happy with the ergonomic use of the chair for comfort and his follow up message 2 days later says it all:

💥 We have a WINNER 🎉👏

But before I announce who, a little trivia for you. These tools are used in Gua Sha (pronouced "gwa-shah"), an East Asian healing technique. A trained professional like me, uses a small, smooth-edged tool to firmly scrape your skin in one direction. This can help improve blood flow, reduce inflammation and assist in clearing the sinuses and boost collagen.

How can gently "scraping" your skin help it heal? According to traditional Chinese medicine, good health relies on chi, or energy, to easily flow through your body. If this important force gets blocked in an area, you can start to have health issues. Gua sha is believed to get this vital energy "unstuck" and flowing again 😊

So back to answering the question: "Which one of these is not like the others? 🤔"

If you answered 1 or 4, you were close and to be fair, this was a tricky question as you aren't to know what I was thinking 😜. No. 1 is mainly used on larger body parts under the Graston Technique. No. 4 is a Chinese Soup Spoon and not only great for eating soup with, it's a Gua Sha practioners tool of choice due to it's ergonomic shape for the hand.

No. 3 and 5 can be used on both the face and body.

But the answer is No. 2! It's shape with the notch in it and different sides, is designed specifically for the bone structure and contour of the face and collar bone.

Your body remembers everything you’ve pushed aside – the words you swallowed, the emotions you never had space to process, the tension you thought was just “normal.”

We really do carry our issues in our tissues. It shows up as the tight jaw, the constant fatigue, the feeling that you can’t fully exhale. And the more we try to think our way through it, the more disconnected we become from what’s actually asking to be felt.

Healing doesn’t happen in the mind. It happens when we slow down enough to listen to the body – when we let it guide us instead of fighting against it.

Sometimes that looks like tears you didn’t know were waiting. Sometimes it’s a deep breath that finally lands after years of shallow ones. And sometimes it’s just a quiet moment of realisation that you don’t have to hold it all anymore.

That’s the beginning of coming home to yourself – not by doing more, but by finally allowing yourself to feel.
That’s where real healing begins… when you finally stop running from yourself.
