The ABC has just released some wonderful research findings based on the impact of 'Old People's Home for 4-year-olds' and Old People's Home for Teens'. I'm very proud to have been part of this series (and happily handed over to Dr Sophie Li). What a great project!

The ABC series Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds and Old People’s Home for Teenagers have had a notable impact in fostering social cohesion and inclusion in Australia, a new study has found, while raising awareness of the benefits of intergenerational practice.

We're sharing this poem for those who are coping with grief over the holidays. This may be a tough and isolating time for you, but remember to look after yourself and love yourself. ❤️

This poem is from Donna Ashworth's beautiful book of poetry "Loss".

Lovely illustration of parenting investment through positive time in, genuine attachment-rich interactions, and shaping personhood across development. As I say in my sessions, the door for connection will close one day, we don't get unlimited chances as parents/caregivers. Get in there for some positive time-in if you can!

This is a wonderful art program for children with anxiety and their parents. It's a research program, so it is in the process of becoming evidence based. I've met with the program co ordinator and the lead researcher, who are passionate about art and mental health. Please consider joining this terrific initiative.

Engagement with the arts can help young people connect to their feelings, thoughts, and imagination. It can build self-confidence and resilience, foster social connections and improve mental health and wellbeing.

A question I get asked in session is "what's the point if I'm not the best at things? Shouldn't I strive to be the best, better than everyone else?" (perfectionism). Of course, I draw from schema and CBT, and developing a sense of self-worth outside of performance. BUT, I really like this article, which talks about the ethics of being the best. It's a beautiful piece that reminds us that being better than others isn't the aim in life. Making life better for everyone is where we find value and meaning.

Our hybrid online/live 3hr workshop for this year will be beginning on 1 June 2023. The course consists of self-paced lectures (2hrs) and one live tutorial (1hr).

It's unlikely that any classroom teachers will go through their career without having to address mental health concerns about a student to their parents or carers. This course will support teachers in developing the process skills to have warm, collaborative, and effective conversations about mental health concerns and help-seeking with students and families.

We know that people often delay starting therapy. If you have mild to moderate symptoms and don't have any major risk factors, would you believe that there is a specific time of the year that can help you get momentum in therapy and maximise the use of Medicare funding? Read on for more information.

An odd question indeed because most people should start therapy when they need it. Despite this, even when people ‘need’ it, they often do not get help and delay seeking support. We know that approximately 70% of adults and young people with a mental health disorder do not seek help(1). Unfortun...
