๐Ÿ† Weโ€™re honoured to share that Ngak Min Health has received the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples Award at the 2025 Open Minds Queensland Mental Health Awards!

Our Chairperson, Audrey Deemal, proudly accepted the award on behalf of our team.

This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering culturally grounded, inclusive and holistic mental health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Cape York.

We're proud to walk alongside Djarragun College โ€“ strengthening wellbeing through connection, care and culture.

Thank you to Open Minds Australia for this acknowledgement.

๐Ÿ“ On Gimuy Country, Ngak Min Health and Djarragun College stood together at the 2025 Closing the Gap on Indigenous Health Forum.

From the early days of supporting Djarragun students to becoming a national example of school-based healthcare, Ngak Min continues to prove whatโ€™s possible when education and health walk side by side.

At the forum, our leaders shared the data, stories and cultural strength behind our success and why community-led models like ours need long-term support to thrive.

๐ŸŒฟ At Ngak Min Health, we see every day that cultural identity is health. Our work with young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students shows that when care is culturally safe, respectful and grounded in community โ€“ it changes lives.

From reducing paediatric waitlists from three years to three months, to providing daily SEWB support at Djarragun College โ€“ Ngak Min is closing the gap with care that listens, supports and empowers. ๐Ÿ’š

This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the courage of our youth, the wisdom of our Elders and the strength of a community walking together.

Because the next generation is already leading and weโ€™re right beside them. โœจ

๐Ÿฅ— As the on-site dietitian at Ngak Min Healthโ€™s clinic, Dorothy Richmond is transforming the way Djarragun College students think about food and health. With more than 20 yearsโ€™ experience, sheโ€™s using her deep knowledge of nutrition โ€“ and a whole lot of heart โ€“ to help students make choices that boost energy, confidence and wellbeing.

Whether sheโ€™s teaching portion sizes, creating meal plans or introducing bush tucker like lemon myrtle and wattle seed, Dorothy is empowering young people to take control of their health, one smart food choice at a time.

At Ngak Min Health, we know that healing goes beyond physical wellbeing โ€“ itโ€™s also about cultural connection, truth-telling and walking together with respect. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ

This yearโ€™s National Reconciliation Week theme, Bridging Now to Next, reminds us that reconciliation is ongoing. Itโ€™s shaped by the strength of those who came before us, the relationships we nurture today and the future weโ€™re building for the next generation.

Like the native plants in this yearโ€™s theme artwork โ€“ which grow stronger after fire โ€“ our communities hold deep strength, resilience and the ability to renew.

As we reflect, we also recommit โ€“ to care, to listen and to walk forward together.

We are a one-stop health centre for all families in the local community. We eliminate the multiple and complex referral pathways which are known to hinder access by many people.

We provide services into workplaces, schools, and community groups as a way to promote wellness.

As well as a full range of GP services we also offer specialist mental health and wellbeing services, psychology, paediatric, occupational therapy and speech therapy services, as well as parenting and family development programs.
