Knowing the difference between Braxton Hicks and true labour contractions can be confusing, especially as you get closer to your due date. Braxton Hicks, often called "practice contractions," are irregular, don't increase in intensity, and tend to fade away when you change position or activity. They are your body's way of getting ready for the real thing.

On the other hand, true labour contractions are more predictable. They come at regular intervals, get progressively stronger, and last for a longer duration. They won't go away when you move around. This is your body's signal that it's time to meet your baby!

If you're unsure or have any concerns about what you're experiencing, it is always a good idea to contact your healthcare provider. We are here to help you through this important time.

Postpartum swelling, also known as postpartum edema, is a common and completely normal part of the recovery process after childbirth. It can happen for a few reasons, including the extra fluids your body retained during pregnancy, fluids given during labour, and the shifting of hormones after birth.

Here are a few simple ways to help ease the discomfort!

Remember, every body's recovery journey is unique, but if you're concerned about your swelling or it's accompanied by other symptoms, it's always a good idea to check in with a healthcare professional.

You’ve been told you need a colposcopy, and you’re probably wondering what that actually involves. Let's walk through it together so you know what to expect.

A colposcopy is a common procedure that allows your doctor to get a magnified, detailed look at your cervix. It's usually done right in the office and is a lot like a cervical screening test. After you get comfortable on the examination table, a speculum is gently inserted. Then, a special magnifying tool called a colposcope is used to examine your cervix up close. A solution, like a mild vinegar, is often applied to help highlight any areas of concern.

If your doctor spots anything unusual, they might take a tiny tissue sample, called a biopsy, for further testing. This can cause some mild cramping, but it's a very quick step. Afterward, you might have some light spotting. We'll give you specific aftercare instructions, but generally, we recommend avoiding tampons and in*******se for a short time to let everything heal.

A colposcopy is a safe and effective way to get answers and ensure your cervical health is on track. If you have any questions or would like to book an appointment, please reach out to us at 02 4335 4000 or email us at admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

Pregnancy and childbirth bring incredible changes to a woman's body, and one you might not expect is diastasis recti, or abdominal separation. This common condition occurs when the connective tissue between your re**us abdominis ("six-pack") muscles stretches, creating a gap. While it often resolves on its own, it’s important to understand what it is, how to check for it, and how to safely manage it.

We can work together to create a safe and effective plan for your core recovery. I also collaborate closely with some wonderful physiotherapists who specialise in women's health to ensure you receive comprehensive care on your journey.

While often called "morning" sickness, the waves of nausea and vomiting can strike at any time of day, and they're a common, and often challenging, part of early pregnancy. For most, these symptoms are manageable and tend to fade by the second trimester.

However, it's important to know when to seek help. If you're experiencing severe or persistent vomiting, are unable to keep down food or fluids, or notice signs of dehydration like dark urine or dizziness, it might be more than just typical morning sickness. This could be a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum, which requires medical attention.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns. We're here to help you navigate this journey safely and comfortably. You can book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

While experiencing incontinence might feel embarrassing to discuss, it's a very common condition, and many women benefit significantly from medical intervention.

So, when is it time to seek professional support? If incontinence is impacting your daily life, whether it's limiting your activities, causing discomfort, or affecting your confidence, it's definitely time to schedule a consultation. This includes any involuntary leakage of urine, no matter how minor, during activities like coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, or even just going about your day. Persistent urges to urinate, frequent nighttime awakenings due to bladder control issues, or any pain associated with bladder symptoms are also clear indicators.

As a gynaecologist, I'm here to provide a supportive and understanding environment to discuss your symptoms and explore the best treatment options tailored to your needs. There are many effective solutions, from lifestyle adjustments and pelvic floor exercises to medications and minimally invasive procedures.

Ready to take the first step towards better bladder health? You can book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

I also work closely with an incredible network of women's health physiotherapists who can provide invaluable support on your journey:

Generally, the initial recovery period for a C-section is around 6 to 8 weeks. During this time, you'll likely experience some pain and discomfort around your incision, along with fatigue. It's crucial to prioritise rest – truly, rest as much as you can, especially in those first few weeks.

Gentle movements, like short walks, can help your body recover and improve circulation, but avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activities. We'll also chat about managing pain effectively and caring for your incision to promote optimal healing and minimise complications. Every woman's healing journey is unique, and it's important to listen to your body and be patient with yourself.

Have more questions about C-section recovery or what to expect in the weeks following your delivery? You can book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

The simple answer is, for many, absolutely, yes! Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when one or more of your pelvic organs – your womb, bladder, or bowel – shift from their usual position, causing the vaginal wall to bulge. While it's not life-threatening and some women experience minimal to no issues, more severe cases can certainly lead to discomfort and impact your daily life, even stopping you from doing the things you love.

It's crucial to understand that pelvic organ prolapse, much like incontinence, is not an inevitable part of aging. There are effective ways to manage symptoms and improve your quality of life. As a gynaecologist, my goal is to provide comprehensive care, offering solutions tailored to your individual needs. We can explore various treatment options together, from conservative management to surgical interventions, depending on your specific situation and concerns.

I believe in a holistic approach to women's health. That's why I also work closely with incredible pelvic floor physiotherapists who play a vital role in strengthening and supporting your pelvic floor. I'm proud to collaborate with:
