Understanding your cycle is the first step toward better reproductive health and overall well-being. You can book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

Menopause is a natural transition that occurs when a woman's menstrual cycle stops. It typically happens between the ages of 45 and 55, but it can happen earlier or later. Menopause is caused by a decrease in the production of estrogen and progesterone, two hormones that are responsible for regulating the menstrual cycle.

While menopause is a natural process, it can cause a variety of symptoms, including:

◾ Hot flashes
◾ Night sweats
◾ Vaginal dryness
◾ Mood swings
◾ Trouble sleeping
◾ Weight gain
◾ Thinning hair
◾ Dry skin
◾ Decreased s*x drive
◾ Difficulty concentrating
◾ Memory problems
◾ Bone loss

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you can book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or email admin@kidspointmingara.com.au. I can help you manage your symptoms and ensure that you are staying healthy during this transition.

When it comes to discontinuing hormone replacement therapy (HRT), there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer that applies to everyone. Each woman's journey with HRT is unique, influenced by her health needs and life circumstances.

It depends on several factors, including:

◾️Your reason for starting HRT:
Are you using it to manage menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, or for another condition?

◾️Severity of your symptoms:
If your symptoms are well-controlled on HRT, you may be able to stop taking it eventually.

◾️Your overall health:
Certain health conditions may make HRT inadvisable.

◾️Your age:
While there isn't a strict age limit, some research suggests increased risks associated with HRT use later in life.

If you are contemplating whether to stop HRT, it is crucial to have a thorough discussion with your gynaecologist. Together, you can evaluate the benefits and risks tailored to your specific situation .

If the decision to stop HRT is made, your gynaecologist will also assist in creating a gradual and safe tapering plan. Feel free to book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

While you can't diagnose yourself, some signs might point towards a prolapse:

◾Feeling a bulge or pressure in your va**na
◾Difficulty fully emptying your bladder or bowels
◾Leaking urine (incontinence)
◾A general feeling of heaviness in your pelvis

Doctors use a grading system based on how far the organs have descended. Here's a quick look at the stages of prolapse (based on the cervix's position):

Stage 1: Mild, cervix is slightly lower but still inside the va**na. You might not feel any symptoms.

Stage 2: Cervix nears the va**nal opening. You might feel a bulge or pressure, especially when straining.

Stage 3: Cervix protrudes outside the va**na. Symptoms like incontinence and difficulty emptying bowels can occur.

Stage 4: Entire uterus has slipped outside the va**na (least common). Symptoms are typically more pronounced.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and your experience might differ. If you're experiencing any of these, don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au. A proper diagnosis is key to finding the best treatment for YOU and I can work closely with the following physiotherapists to assist with your treatment:

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus. It may also involve removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. A hysterectomy is generally a safe procedure with excellent success rates. However, potential risks and side effects of the procedure include:

Common side effects

◾Pain: Pain is common after a hysterectomy, especially in the first few days. This can be managed with pain medication.
◾Bleeding: Some va**nal bleeding is normal after a hysterectomy. This should gradually decrease over time.
◾Fatigue: Feeling tired is also common after a hysterectomy. This is because your body is healing.
◾Changes in bowel habits: Some women experience constipation or diarrhea after a hysterectomy.
◾Emotional changes: It is normal to experience a range of emotions after a hysterectomy, such as sadness, grief, or relief.

Long-term side effects

◾Menopause: If the ovaries are removed during a hysterectomy, menopause will occur. This can cause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, va**nal dryness, and mood changes.
◾Decreased libido: Some women experience a decrease in libido after a hysterectomy.
◾Pelvic organ prolapse: This is a condition in which the pelvic organs, such as the bladder or re**um, drop down into the va**na. It is more common in women who have had a hysterectomy.
◾Osteoporosis: This is a condition that weakens the bones, making them more likely to break. It is more common in women who have had a hysterectomy before the age of 45.

Have concerns or questions about hysterectomy side effects? Call 02 4335 4000 or email admin@kidspointmingara.com.au to book an appointment with me.

As we observe Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month this February, it's crucial to raise awareness about one of the most challenging cancers affecting women globally.

Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed at a late stage due to its subtle symptoms and lack of early screening tests. This month, let's focus on education, early detection, and supporting research to improve outcomes for women everywhere.

Understanding the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer can empower women to seek medical advice promptly. Common symptoms include bloating, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating, and frequent urination. If you experience any of these symptoms persistently, it's important to consult with your gynaecologist.

Remember, early detection can make a significant difference in treatment success and survival rates. If you have concerns about ovarian cancer or want to discuss your risk factors, I'm here to help. Book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.
