The postpartum period is a beautiful, but challenging, journey for new mothers, and the support of a partner is crucial. Partners, your role is so much more than just a helping hand; you are an essential pillar of support for both mum and baby.

For the new mother, this support can be as simple as making sure she has a glass of water while she's nursing, taking over a nighttime feeding shift with a bottle, or just listening to her without judgment. Emotionally, your presence and understanding can make a world of difference as she navigates hormonal changes and recovery.

For the baby, your bond is just as important. Skin-to-skin contact, rocking, and talking to your newborn all help build a secure attachment and can give mum a much-needed break. Sharing the responsibilities of diaper changes, bath time, and soothing a fussy baby not only eases the load but also strengthens your own connection with your child.

Remember, teamwork makes the dream work! If you have questions about navigating the postpartum period, we're here to help.

October is World Menopause Month, and it's a great opportunity to raise awareness and support for women going through this significant life change. Menopause is a natural transition, not an illness, but the symptoms can be challenging to navigate. You may be experiencing hot flashes, sleep disturbances, mood swings, or other changes that are impacting your quality of life.

Remember, you don't have to manage these symptoms alone. I'm here to provide professional guidance, discuss your options for symptom relief, and support you on your journey.

You can book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

Deciding on a hysterectomy can feel overwhelming, but modern surgical techniques have made the procedure far less invasive than it used to be. While traditional hysterectomies required a large abdominal incision, today we can often perform the surgery using advanced methods like laparoscopic ("keyhole") or vaginal hysterectomies.

These less-invasive options typically lead to less pain and a significantly faster recovery time. My goal is to help you understand all your options and choose the best path for your health.

If you have questions or would like to discuss which procedure is right for you, please book an appointment by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

As a gynaecologist, I want to share some vital information about breast cancer, including its signs, the importance of regular self-checks, and the diagnostic tests available.

Early detection is key to successful treatment, and together, we can make a difference!

Navigating the early stages of pregnancy can bring up so many questions and concerns, especially when it comes to understanding your body's signals. Many people wonder about the difference between implantation bleeding and the signs of a miscarriage.

Implantation bleeding is typically light spotting or a pink/brown discharge that occurs about 10-14 days after conception. It's usually brief, lasting from a few hours to a couple of days, and is much lighter than a period. It's a normal sign that the fertilised egg has attached to the uterine wall.

A miscarriage often involves heavier bleeding that may start as light spotting but progresses to bright red blood, sometimes with clots or tissue. This is often accompanied by cramping that can be more severe and persistent than typical period cramps.

While these are general guidelines, every body is different. If you are experiencing bleeding or have concerns about your symptoms, you can book an appointment with me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

Fibroids are noncancerous growths that can appear in or on the uterus. While they're often harmless, they can cause a number of uncomfortable symptoms, including:

◾Heavy, prolonged, or irregular periods
◾Pelvic pain or pressure
◾Lower back pain or pain during s*x
◾Constipation or difficulty with bowel movements
◾Frequent or difficult urination

In some cases, fibroids can even affect fertility.

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, it's a good idea to get them checked out. Taking care of your health is a top priority, and a simple conversation can lead to peace of mind and a personalized treatment plan.

Feel free to reach out to me for a confidential chat about your symptoms. You can book an appointment by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.

One of the first questions an expecting parent has is, "When is my due date?" While a due date gives us a target, it's essential to understand that it's an estimate, not a deadline.

Due dates are most commonly calculated using a method called Naegele's Rule, which adds 40 weeks to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). For pregnancies conceived through IVF, the due date is calculated based on the embryo transfer date. Ultrasound scans, especially in the first trimester, also provide a very accurate way to estimate your due date by measuring the baby's size.

It's important to remember that only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. A healthy, full-term pregnancy can range from 37 to 42 weeks. This five-week window is perfectly normal and gives your baby the time they need to develop.

Embrace the journey and the flexibility that comes with it. If you have questions about your due date or anything else related to your pregnancy, I am here to help.

Perimenopause, or the "menopause transition," is the time leading up to your final menstrual period. It's not a single point in time, but rather a transitional phase when your body's hormone levels—particularly estrogen—begin to fluctuate and decline.

Perimenopause typically begins in a person's 40s, but it can start as early as the mid-30s or as late as the mid-50s. The average age of menopause in Australia is 51-52, and perimenopause can begin about 4 to 6 years before that.

The first sign is often a change in your menstrual cycle. Your periods might become irregular, with the time between them getting shorter or longer. The flow might also change, becoming heavier or lighter. Other common symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes, and vaginal dryness.

As a gynaecologist, I'm here to support you through this change. We can discuss your symptoms, explore management options, and create a personalised plan to help you feel your best again.

Postpartum preeclampsia is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that can affect women after childbirth. While preeclampsia is commonly associated with pregnancy, it’s important to know that it can also develop in the days or even weeks following delivery. This condition involves high blood pressure and can lead to severe complications if not treated promptly.

Don't ignore the warning signs. Stay informed, listen to your body, and don't hesitate to reach out if something doesn't feel right. Your health is just as important after the baby arrives as it was during your pregnancy.

If you have questions or need to book an appointment to discuss your postpartum health, please don't hesitate to contact me by calling 02 4335 4000 or emailing admin@kidspointmingara.com.au.
