Well Done to our lovely craft ladies!!! Creating special blankets for patients living with dementia that help them to keep calm using various sensory items. A very important cause that will make a huge improvement to the patients, well done to all the Resident crafties that participated to this project.
WELCOME DISTRACTION | They are vibrant, sit snugly over a seated patient’s lap and are specially fitted with a large pocket which house a range of sensory surprises like ribbons, strips of felt, tassels and more.
These special blankets are designed to keep agitated patients living with dementia calm and their hands busy, so they stay away from intravenous lines, drains and drips while they have important treatment.
They are beautiful creations and work wonders, with patients often spending their treatment time observing the workmanship. They are also good conversation starters, with carers and visitors often keen to sit and chat about the blankets with patients.
They are distributed to a number of wards across our District thanks to an army of hard working and talented volunteers from all over the Central Coast.
Thank you to The Umina Knitters, The Craft Ladies, Central Coast Sensory Mats, Dolores Byrne, June Barton, Robyn Pavitt and Bev Waters for your amazing support!
