Tech is brilliant… until it isn’t.

Sensors fall off. Pumps block. Apps crash.

We always make a backup plan with you so a tech hiccup doesn’t turn into a crisis. That usually includes:
• Having pens or syringes handy
• Knowing your long-acting and rapid-acting doses
• Knowing when to call us, the device company, or the hospital

The goal is confidence: “If this fails, I know exactly what to do.”

Coasties Diabetes – helping you feel prepared when tech doesn’t behave.

🧠 Mind-Body Connection: Stress affects blood sugars too! When you're overwhelmed, cortisol can push numbers up. Deep breathing, short walks, or calling a friend can help. Your mental health is part of diabetes care! 🌱

“If I get a sensor, does that mean no more finger-pricks ever?”

For many people, CGM or flash monitoring means far fewer finger-pricks – but not always zero.

You may still need the odd finger-prick to:
• Double-check a reading
• Confirm a low or high
• Calibrate certain systems

What changes most is the amount of information you have: trends, arrows, and overnight data. That’s what helps us fine-tune things together.

Coasties Diabetes – helping you understand what tech really changes (and what it doesn’t).

🥕 Myth Buster: 'Diabetics can't eat fruit' - WRONG! Fruit provides vitamins, fiber, and natural sweetness. Pair it with protein or eat it after meals to minimize blood sugar spikes. An apple with peanut butter anyone? 🍎🥜

One of the biggest fears we hear:

"What if I start on a pump or CGM and then I’m left on my own?"

At Coasties Diabetes, we don’t do that.

For new tech starts we plan:
• A longer initial appointment
• Check-ins in the first days and weeks
• Ongoing reviews once things settle

Plus, you know how to reach us if something goes wrong. You’re not expected to be an expert on day one – that’s what we’re here for.

⚠️ Hypo Prevention: Keep your treatment close! Glucose tablets in your car, bag, bedside table. 15g of fast carbs, wait 15 minutes, recheck. Don't overthink it in the moment – treat first, analyze later. Safety first! 🚨

2025: A Year of Growth at Coasties Diabetes 🎉

What an incredible year it's been! We're so proud to reflect on how we've expanded our team and services to better support our diabetes community.

This year we welcomed:
✨ Two new endocrinologists to our team
✨ A specialist perimenopause and menopause nurse educator

These additions mean more appointment availability and specialized care for the unique challenges women face through hormonal changes, whilst continuing our ongoing commitment to provide quality collaborative diabetes management.

Our comprehensive services include:
💙 Diabetes education and pump training
💙 Nutrition support
💙 Mental health support

Looking ahead to 2026, we're excited to announce the launch of our transgender diabetes clinic - providing compassionate, specialized care for the trans community navigating diabetes management alongside gender-affirming care.

Thank you to every patient who trusted us with your care this year. Your journeys inspire us every single day.

Here's to an even brighter 2026! 💙

Women’s Health Wednesdays – Week 4 💙💚

What happens at a Menopause & Perimenopause Clinic appointment?

If you’ve been wondering what actually happens when you book in, here’s what we usually cover in a first visit:

• We talk through your symptoms and story
How long things have been going on, where you’re at in your cycle/menopause stage, and what’s worrying you most.

• We look at your health picture
Current medications, medical history and any previous pregnancies (including GDM), plus things like surgical or early menopause.

• We review any data you have
Blood tests, health reports and (if you live with diabetes) CGM, pump or meter patterns – with a focus on what’s changed for you.

• We explain your options in plain language
From medication review with your doctor (including HRT and non-hormonal options) to tech tweaks, nutrition, movement and mental health support.

• We make a simple, realistic plan
So you leave feeling clearer and supported, not overwhelmed.

There’s no judgment, no pressure to “have it all together” – just practical help and space to ask questions.

Life on the Coast isn’t lived in a clinic room. It’s beaches, sport, heat, kids, work, and everything in between.

When we talk about CGMs and pumps, we don’t just look at numbers. We talk about:
• Swimming and beach days
• Sport and active jobs
• Hot weather and sticky sensors
• How visible devices feel in your body and relationships

Tech has to fit your real life, not an idealised version of it.

Coasties Diabetes – helping diabetes tech work with your life on the Coast, not against it.

Women’s Health Wednesdays – Week 3 💙💚

Let’s talk SLEEP & MOOD.

Perimenopause and menopause can quietly turn both upside down:
• Waking soaked in sweat at 2 am
• Lying awake for hours with a racing mind
• Snapping at people you love, then feeling guilty
• Feeling flat, teary or “not like yourself”

None of this means you’re weak or “not coping”. Your hormones are changing – and your nervous system is working overtime to keep up.

In our Menopause & Perimenopause Clinic, we focus on:
• Simple changes that support deeper sleep
• Calming strategies you can actually use at 2 am
• When it’s time to talk about HRT or medication options with your doctor
• Linking you in with mental health support if you need it

You deserve to feel like yourself again – not just “put up with it”.

If this sounds familiar, it’s a good time to book a Women’s Health appointment.
