Flu is serious but isn’t as scary if you’re vaccinated. A flu vaccine offers you and your child the best protection from serious illness.

If your child is 2 to 17 years old, they can get a free nasal spray flu vaccine for a limited time. It is gentle, painless and needle-free. Speak to your GP, pharmacist, or Aboriginal Medical Service about what is best for your child.

The yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone aged six months and over. The traditional flu vaccine is free for children aged 6 months to under 5 years, Aboriginal children aged 6 months and over, and children with serious health conditions.

We’re incredibly lucky to be a beneficiary of Dry July again this year.

Dry July is a fantastic initiative that encourages people to go alcohol-free in July to raise funds for cancer patients, their families and carers.

By taking part or donating, you’ll help fund important wellbeing initiatives right here on the Central Coast, including:

• Free art classes and exercise programs for patients
• A beverage bay for the new cancer inpatient unit at Gosford
• A wall art installation in the new Wyong Hospital Cancer Day Unit
• Book-swap libraries across our sites for patient education and enjoyment

They've been quietly rolling up for the Central Coast for nearly two decades - and now the Umina Beach Men's Bowling Club are celebrating raising an incredible $87,000 for cancer services since 2009.

The club's latest donations from the Ron Pursehouse Prostate Cancer Charity Day of $8,600 in 2024 and $6,500 in 2025 have helped fund a new bladder scanner for the Wyong Cancer Day Unit, supporting local patients through their treatment.

Club members recently visited the unit to see the impact of their fundraising firsthand - a proud moment for everyone involved.

A huge thank you to the club for their generosity and ongoing support!

Today is National Sorry Day. We acknowledge, with deep respect, the Stolen Generations Survivors – who were forcibly removed from their families, communities, culture and Country as children. We also honour in remembrance the Survivors who have passed and pay respects to their families and communities who continue to carry their deep loss and ongoing grief.

At Central Coast Health, today is an opportunity to pause, reflect and better understand the needs of Stolen Generations Survivors. Through our commitment to standing together with compassion and respect, we can help build a future where the health and wellbeing of Survivors and their descendants is supported with dignity, equity and respect.

The artwork featured is ‘Healthy Living’ by Uncle Richard Campbell, a Stolen Generations Survivor from the Kinchela Boys Home, symbolising harmony with our natural fauna and flora and the interaction of the various players that will bring about healthy living now and for future generations.

🏌🏼‍♀️💗Thank you to Kooindah Waters Ladies Golf for their generous donation of $7,645, which has allowed the Wyong Cancer Day Unit to purchase an AccuVein device – a handheld, non-contact technology that uses infrared light to map veins beneath the skin.

This innovative equipment will support clinicians to reduce discomfort for patients, improve success rates for procedures and create a better patient experience - the Wyong Cancer Day Unit team are thrilled to have this new technology available.

The unit recently welcomed members of Kooindah Waters Ladies Golf for a special thank you event and demonstration of the AccuVein in action. Thank you so much for making such a meaningful difference.

💜It's the cup of tea you didn't know you needed, a knitted blanket made with love, the organised storerooms our staff walk into each day, the chat that brightens a patients' day and the kind face greeting you at the hospital entrance.

That's the spirit of our volunteers - and this Volunteer Week, we celebrate everything they so generously give to our patients, visitors and staff.

Already this year our 'vollies' as they're affectionately known have given 7500 hours of their time, were recognised as joint winners of the Australia Day Community Group Award, have welcomed 16 new members and been a reassuring, supportive presence across our hospitals.

Thank you to our volunteers and auxiliary members for being the heart of Central Coast Health and for your care, kindness and dedication every day.

Our palliative care team is encouraging community members to talk about palliative care.

“Palliative care for me is about walking alongside people, honouring their choices and supporting them through their journey as comfortably as we can," says Ellie, the Nurse Unit Manager of our Palliative Care Unit.

“Palliative care is not just about end-of-life care but about improving quality of life at all stages of illness and it’s not just about addressing physical symptoms but emotional, social and spiritual needs as well.

“If you or someone you know has a terminal illness, talk to your loved ones about your end of life wishes. We encourage you to engage with palliative care early so that the care you receive can make a meaningful difference and help you feel supported when you need it most.”

💕⛳Thank you to the Shelly Beach Ladies Golf Club for their generous donation of $4,800 to Central Coast Health Cancer Services, raised through their annual charity day.

The club has a long history of supporting our Cancer Services - with more than $45,000 donated since 2011 - to help purchase vital equipment and comfort items for patients.

Last year’s donation funded a new observation machine for the Gosford Cancer Day Unit, supporting timely and accurate patient observations, improving safety, and enhancing nursing efficiency and flow.

Recently, members of the Shelly Beach Ladies Golf Club visited the Cancer Day Unit for a thank‑you event and to see the equipment in action - a wonderful opportunity to show the impact of their continued generosity.
