A huge thank you to the Gosford Hospital Auxiliary for their generous donation of Vesticam infrared video goggles for our emergency and physiotherapy departments.

These goggles are a game-changer for patients who come to ED with dizziness or vertigo. They help our clinicians see and record eye movements during bedside tests, which means faster and more accurate diagnosis.

Around four per cent of ED visits are for dizziness, so this technology will make a real difference for our community.

We’re extremely grateful to the Auxiliary for their incredible support, allowing us to have the latest technology to care for our patients.

Today is World COPD Day and our respiratory team is raising awareness about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) – a serious lung condition that makes breathing difficult and can significantly impact quality of life.

Early detection is key. If you experience symptoms such as breathlessness, chronic cough or frequent chest infections, speak to your doctor about a lung function test. This simple test can help diagnose COPD or other lung conditions.

If you have COPD, there are many ways to manage symptoms and slow progression:
✅ Quit smoking – Call the Quitline on 137 848 or visit: https://www.quit.org.au
✅ Stay active and eat well – Regular exercise and a nutritious diet make a big difference
✅ Join a pulmonary rehabilitation program – Call 1300 725 565 to find out more
✅ Use inhalers correctly – Learn more here: https://lungfoundation.com.au/support-and-resources/living-with-a-lung-disease/using-your-inhaler/
✅ Work with your GP or respiratory specialist to create a COPD action plan
✅ Keep vaccinations up to date – Influenza, pneumonia, and COVID-19

We were thrilled to welcome two Year 6 leadership students from Valley View Public School, along with their Principal and Vice Principal, for a special visit to Gosford Hospital’s Children’s Ward.

To give back to the community, the Year 6 leadership team organised a school disco fundraiser — with entry being a toy donation for our young patients. During their visit, the students personally handed out some of these toys, bringing big smiles to the kids on the ward.

Thank you Valley View Public School! Your kindness and thoughtfulness made a real difference 🧸✨

This week is Perioperative Nurses Week and we are celebrating all of our incredible perioperative nurses, including Carlee who has worked in Gosford Hospital’s operating theatres for the past 15 years.

“My role is a scrub scout, which means I prepare all the surgical instruments and hand them to the surgeon during operations,” Carlee said.

“One of the most important parts of my role is supporting patients who are having an operation. Most patients who are about to have an operation are feeling unsure, anxious and vulnerable and I’m there to help guide them through it.

"Often the best approach is to provide some distraction by chatting to the patient. I usually ask them for their favourite music, so they have something else to focus on. For kids, I’ll play some Bluey or KPop Demon Hunters to lighten the mood.

“My most favourite moments are the caesarean sections. Watching babies being born never gets old and it is so special being there to share the moment and see the emotion on the faces of new parents meeting their baby for the first time.”

Thank you Carlee and all our perioperative nurses for the important work you do and for helping to make surgery less daunting for patients!

🧵We’re very grateful to the Wyong Patchwork and Quilters Group, pictured here holding their beautiful, homemade quilts.

Over the last two years, this talented and generous group of crafters has been regularly donating quilts to gift to our patients – bringing smiles and brightening bedsides across our hospitals.

Last week, group members visited the children’s ward and palliative care unit at Gosford Hospital to deliver another collection of stunning quilts. Thank you! 💕

Wyong Patchwork and Quilters Group meets weekly in Long Jetty to share ideas and to craft, quilt, knit and crochet. If you are interested in joining them, drop into one of their meetings on Mondays between 9.30am and 2pm at the Clam Hall, 204 The Entrance Road, Long Jetty.

We are paws-itively grateful to the Woy Woy Hospital Auxiliary for their fur-tastic donation of $1,300, to fund a whole year of Delta Dog therapy visits at the Woy Woy Geriatric and Rehabilitation Unit.

Thanks to their generosity, Delta Dog Sunny, and his human Ray will visit the unit fortnightly, spreading joy and comfort to patients and staff alike.

Delta Dogs like Sunny are more than just cute faces. They offer a welcome distraction for our patients from illness, help create a more relaxed clinical environment by reducing stress and anxiety and often help spark conversations about patients’ own pets.

Thank you to all the Auxiliary members for this paw-some donation!

🥰We’re very proud of haematology nurse practitioner Jacqui Jagger who is a finalist for the Judith Meppen Lifetime Achievement Award in the NSW Health Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards 2025.

Jacqui’s 30-year career exemplifies the highest standards of nursing leadership, innovation and compassionate care.

Here on the Central Coast, she has established programs that transition haematology care from inpatient to outpatient settings, introduced self-administration of chemotherapy at home and developed models that reduce emergency department presentations and hospital admissions for cancer patients.

Jacqui is deeply committed to empowering her patients. As co-founder and president of the Central Coast Myeloma Support Group, she leads education and fundraising efforts – including sporting a very close shave for last year’s World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser!

The winner will be announced later this month but she’s already a winner in our eyes! Congratulations Jacqui! 🎉
