Are you worried they are getting worse?

You know your child best. You may notice small but important changes before any change shows in their vital signs.

NSW Health is rolling out a new tool in hospitals across the state that recognises families and carers as part of the healthcare team.

It starts with a simple question from a nurse, doctor or other health worker: “Are you worried they are getting worse?”

If you say yes, we’ll act. Your concerns will prompt a check of your child and a review of their care plan.

By October 2025, this tool will be used in all NSW Health hospitals for babies and children.

Our 3D Surgical Inpatient Unit at Wyong Hospital has unveiled a vibrant new welcome banner featuring the smiling faces of their wonderful team!

Surgical Nurse Unit Manager Tracy (pictured) wanted to find ways to bring a welcoming, supportive feeling to the ward for both patients and staff.

“I wanted to ensure that patients feel reassured they’re in the right place for quality care the moment they arrive, and equally to bring the team together around a shared vision for our ward” Tracy said.

We think the banner brings warmth and positivity to the ward entrance from the moment you arrive!👏

Cancer research has the power to change lives.

In NSW, 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. But thanks to breakthroughs and innovations in cancer research, NSW has made great progress in:
✅Reducing cancer rates
✅Creating new and better treatments
✅Increasing cancer survival rates
Improving cancer care and survivorship

We know thousands of people and their families are directly impacted by cancer across Central Local Health District.

Our staff are committed to working with researchers and our partners across NSW to create a better future for our community, give people more options and ultimately, hope.

This , we recognise and celebrate the important role of cancer research in advancing progress and reducing cancer’s impact on people in our LHD and beyond.

♠️We're incredibly grateful to the CentralCoastbridgeclub for their generous donation of $7,000 to the Wyong Cancer Day Unit.

The funds - raised at the Club's 'Girls Night In' fundraiser back in April have gone towards purchasing a medical trolley and a patient chair scale for the unit.

We recently welcomed members of the Bridge Club (pictured) for a special donor visit with Tracey, the Cancer Unit's Nurse Unit Manager. Tracey demonstrated how her team will use the equipment, explained how it supports patient care and gave a heartfelt thank you to the group.

Thank you to Central Coast Bridge Club for helping us to continue to provide high-quality care to our community through your generous donations.

The Umina Beach Men’s Bowling Club has continued its tradition of supporting our cancer services, recently donating $6,500, raised during the Ron Pursehouse Prostate Cancer Charity Day held earlier this year.

Thanks to funds raised over the past two years, we have purchased a bladder scanner as well as a Sara Steady - a sit-to-stand aid designed to help patients safely transfer from a seated to a standing position, for tasks like toileting.

Since 2009, the Club has donated an incredible $78,500 to our Cancer Services.

Thank you, Umina Beach Men’s Bowling Club, for your continued commitment to supporting cancer care in our community.

Our Woy Woy child and family health drop-in clinic will have only one nurse available tomorrow (Wednesday 10 September) so you may experience longer wait times than usual. There are also drop-in clinics open at Kincumber, Long Jetty and Lake Haven if you’d prefer to visit a clinic at another location.

Drop-in clinics take place weekly across the Central Coast and give parents and carers of children under 5 the opportunity to drop in with any concerns or questions, an infant weight review or general advice and support.
