Does the body really “store” trauma?
Fascia is a dynamic connective tissue system that surrounds and integrates muscles, joints, nerves and organs. It plays an important role in movement, stability and sensory feedback.
Research shows fascia is highly innervated and closely connected to the nervous system. When we experience prolonged stress, injury or emotional trauma, the body may develop protective tension patterns. Over time, this can contribute to persistent tightness, reduced mobility and increased pain sensitivity.
While trauma is not literally “stored” in tissue, the nervous system can maintain protective responses — which may feel like the body is holding tension long after the initial event.
Remedial massage and myofascial techniques may help by:
• Improving tissue mobility
• Supporting circulation and hydration
• Modulating nervous system activity
• Assisting pain reduction
If your body has been feeling tight, restricted or overloaded with stress, it may simply need support and time to reset.
